xaq_the_aereon: I caught it...now what? (Default)
If you read this blog, odds are good you read [personal profile] davidn and [personal profile] kjorteo and thus have seen their entries about albums that formed their tastes in music, so I'm gonna cheat and presume you already know what this is all about. :p

The first "album" I have to go with here isn't technically an album. It's a mixtape my mom made when I was a child. It was a rather varied tracklist from a couple of albums and movie soundtracks (specifically Top Gun, Footloose, and Ghostbusters) that opened me up to a wide variety of music from an early age. So yeah, sorry, no album art to give here. It was a black cassette with a green/white label if that helps.

The songs recorded onto it were, in order of preference:
Tear-Stained Letter by Jo-El Sonnier (preceded by the last few bars of Louisiana 1927)
(I Got My Mind) Set On You by George Harrison
Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins (YES, I PUT A JAMBALAYA TUNE ABOVE THE TOP GUN SONG, SHUT UP)
Ghostbusters by Ray Parker Jr.
Cleanin' Up the Town by the Busboys
Holding Out For A Hero by Bonnie Tyler
Footloose by Kenny Loggins
Let's Hear It For The Boy by Denice Williams
Almost Paradise by Mike Reno and Anne Wilson

This tape was a childhood treasure of mine, which made it hurt to realize growing up that I'd never actually bothered to learn what the songs on it WERE by the time I'd realized I not only hadn't listened to it in a few years, but had in fact lost it entirely.

Fortunately I've found myself to be a bit of an internet bloodhound when it comes to finding stuff, and The Cassette now sits happily as a playlist on all my devices. ^_^ "Louisiana 1927" was the hardest one to sniff out, since I only had the last 8 seconds of the song to go off of. I am happy to add it in full nowadays.

But yeah, this was easily where I first acquired my love of music, and the room for an even more splayed taste in musical genres was first laid out.

It's strictly albums from here on out, don't worry. :p
