xaq_the_aereon: I caught it...now what? (Default)
Maaaaaaaan yesterday was awesome. I was out at the mall doing a little Christmas shopping, and one of the local card stores was having a tournament. Top prize: A fresh 24-pack EEN box.

I'd only brought Lock, Load, & FIRE! (my Machine deck) along to try and trade a few things with the guy who works there, but I figured if they're letting the EEN cards be used (this place plays by Traditional rules and, when the latest set isn't on the banlist yet, lets anything in it go. Weird, but....eh.), I may as well go for it.

$10 a pop, total of 32 folks signed up for it, single-duel, single-elimination, 4000 LP.

ROUND 1: Vs. "Darkness" (wow, real original nickname.) DECK: Dark World.

My opening draw was a dream: The full VWXYZ set and Card of Sanctity. I played CoS and pulled just what I needed: X-Head Cannon and Return from the Different Dimension. On my opponent's turn, he sets a card and DW Lightnings it, ditching Goldd and summoning him, then sacs him for Dark Ruler Ha Des and PreBurs him back from the grave. I'm down 2950 at this point. Big deal. Soon as I draw, I activate RftDD. Hello Dragon Catapult Cannon. Activate the Heavy Storm I drew to blow away PreBur (and Goldd), then used DCC's effect to vape Ha Des. Goodbye Darkness.

16 left.

ROUND 2: Vs. Susan DECK: Fire Princess LP Burn.
First few rounds didn't go too well...she got me down to about 1500 LP, and my X-Head Cannon couldn't do anything but protect my from an attack with Gravity Bind on the field. Then I pulled Y-Dragon Head and brought out XY-Dragon Cannon (with its ability of "Discard a card to destroy a face-up Spell or Trap card"). Gravity Bind got scorched, then Fire Princess, then Susan.

8 Left.

ROUND 3: Vs. Terry DECK: Exodia.

He apparently didn't know that stalling is a good strategy for an Exodia deck. He never saw a single piece of the Forbidden One in the whole 3 turns the match lasted.

I mean, you have pathetic, and then you have pa-freaking-thetic....this round was pa-freaking-thetic. *sighs* I'll give him credit for making good use of Nimble Momonga's swarm ability, but well, once I had XYZ-Dragon Cannon out, he was done like a Porterhouse steak.

4 Left. At this point, I figured I didn't really need the whole Dragon Catapult Cannon, so I sidedecked the VW set for my Cyber Dragons n' such.

SEMIFINALS: Vs. Aaron. DECK: Another Dark World deck.

I think fate was just on my side today. Opening hand: Both Cyber Dragons, Z-Metal Tank, Y-Dragon Head, Frontline Base. My opponent went first and got 2 Siilvas out via setting & DW Lightninging a pair of spare m/t. My draw? Power Bond. Long Story Short, out come YZ-Tank Dragon and PB'd Cyber Twin Dragon.
SPLAT. (At this point people were swearing I was stacking my deck from how fast these matches were going.....to be honest, I think I just might HAVE been without knowing it!)

Aaaaaaand we get to the....

FINALS: Vs. Kate DECK: E-Heroes.
This one was just kinda sad....she just got a bad shuffle. All of her monsters were about 8 cards down after her initial draw. She would've stalled for a moment with that Scapegoat she pulled if I hadn't slapped a Big Bang Shot on the Y-Dragon Head I was stomping her with. (Ooo, my Dragon punches through your goats' whopping ZERO defense and scorches you. Yawn.)

So yeah, a winner is me.

Notable haul:
3 Siilva, Warlord of Dark World
2 Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World, one Ultimate Rare (aka "SHINY").
2 Water Dragons, 1 Ultimate Rare.
Pot of Avarice
Elemental Hero Tempest (WOOT! TEMPESTER! YEAH!!! 1 EH down....13 to go. X.x;; )
2 Queen's/King's Knights and a Jack's Knight, giving me a full 3-set of each.

The rest of the haul was rather blah.

Still, yeah, don't mind me...as rare as a victory of this calibre is for me anymore, I feel a need to gloat and massage the ol' ego.
