xaq_the_aereon: I caught it...now what? (Default)
Okay, so I was down in Anchorage for Sun/Mon to get some stuff for the new house and a few other things. We were supposed to be home last night.

However, the plane didn't land in Nome, and had to divert back to Anchorage to refuel. Given this was the last flight of the day on that route, we had to wait until this morning to fly home.

Note how I didn't say "the plane never reached Nome"...I didn't say it because, in fact, we did. We diverted due to poor visibility...after the pilot ducked through too-thick-to-see-the-wingtips clouds. The real kicker here, though? For a second or two before he'd pulled up, he'd gotten far enough below the clouds to see the town perfectly. And not just any part of town....we pulled up and diverted RIGHT OVER THE END OF THE RUNWAY TO THE AIRPORT.

Oh, and the real kicker? The weather cleared up even more a few moments later, but he didn't stick around to do a loop-around. His excuse? Low fuel.

Yeah, we didn't have enough fuel to make a quick loop while the weather cleared up nicely to land and let all these tired, cranky people off to go home before refueling there to finish the trip, but we do have enough to buzz them over their houses before forcibly dragging them all back across twice the breadth of Texas so they can make this whole trip (both of which included another stop in the town of Kotzebue further up north, taking the 1:45 Nome-Anchorage flight and extending it to over 4 hours) all over again.

Yeah. Not buying it, not happy.

The fact that I didn't get any sleep last night (due to the fact that I was still trying to at 3:30, an hour before we had to get up and get back to the airport) probably isn't helping my cheery disposition either.
