Well -that- just happened...

Apparently Team Hatoful isn't looked upon favorably by the entirety of the fandom...no surprise.

A few minutes ago I let myself get dragged into a Tumblargument with some folks who are basically accusing us of screw Moa out of her (all too well-deserved) money by making these videos, despite how much we pepper them with "If you like Moa's stuff, support her by buying the games (if you haven't already) and stuff from her store!" messages and leave just enough stuff out to make people want to get the games for themselves, all in an effort to neutralize any damage we might do to her checkbook.

Truth be told, it's my deepest hope that we're actually helping her with this. It's a minimally-advertised indie game with a concept so ludicrous that some people refuse to take it seriously. I like to think that our videos help bring more people into the fandom and, in the process, into buying Moa's works. If we changed just 10 people's minds from "this game is ridiculous, forget it" to "this is awesome! I wanna try it!", that's another $50 in Moa's pocket that wouldn't have been there before...and if someone decides watching us scream our heads off at the weirdness in Holiday Star is enough for them, they either weren't going to buy the game in the first place or, for whatever reason, can't (i.e. too young to have a Paypal account), so how exactly are we doing any harm in that regard?

As far as any financial damage from our manga-based videos go...considering the source I get the translations from is posting them for free already, how exactly are we at fault? By at least including the "buy Moa's stuff" message in there at least once so far (note to self: do so more often), at least at that point hopefully someone's buying something.

(Also, personal note: the moment the manga is available for purchase in the US, I'm buying it.)


...At this point, though, I suppose my biggest question is why I let myself get dragged into that argument in the first place.
