Aereon genetics rewrite
7 Jan 2018 02:27When I first conceived of my fursona, it was meant to be a Flying-type Eeveelution, hence why the name "Aereon" was chosen for the kind of creature it is.
As time went on, however, I found that the connection to Eevee's design didn't work anymore; if nothing else Eevees are cabbit-like creatures and Xaq is quite clearly canid. I've spent a lot of time reconsidering what kind of creature an aereon, which I'm still getting used to spelling lowercased due to it being a species name (I don't capitalize dog or bird in every sentence I write, so why should aereon be any different?), actually is.
So I got right down to it and asked myself: what makes up the essence of an aereon? I came to 4 answers:
1) THE PRIDE OF A LION - Unshakable courage. No matter the size, no matter the number, an aereon never flees from a fight, whether it is to secure food, attract a mate, or protect the other members of its mess. This physically manifests in their mane and their legs.
2) THE SPIRIT OF A WOLF - Unwavering loyalty to their kin. A drake will defend his mate, a wyrm will defend her mate, and both will defend the whelps in their cluster without hesitation or restraint against any and all threats. An alpha earns that right through its dedication to the rest of the mess it leads. This is not just limited to other aereons; any who aid an aereon earn its respect. This physically manifests in their muzzle and torso.
3) THE SOUL OF A PHOENIX - Inexhaustible tenacity. Between their body's efficiency and their connection to the natural energies of the world around them, do not except an aereon to ever show exhaustion in anything it needs to do. It will go full throttle right up until the moment it cannot possibly go any more...and even then it may not stop if the needs of its mess are great enough that laying down its life for them is a necessity. This physically manifests in their wings.
4) THE HEART OF A DRAGON - Indomitable might. Their ability to channel natural energies into massive bursts of speed or power is devastating, as are their physical strikes. Taking down a beast many times their own size is rarely a problem, and often used as a way of attracting a mate. This physically manifests in their long tails, capable of stone-shattering strikes due to the bony mass at the end and the sheer force they can swing them with.
tl;dr Kitty paws, kitty mane, puppy nose, bird wings, dragon tail that makes stuff go CRUNCH, power boost from Mother Earth.
TERMINOLOGY
Drake - Male adult aereon
Wyrm - Female adult aereon
Whelp - Newborn-to-adolescent aereon
Cluster - A Drake/Wyrm mating with whelps
Mess - A group of 2 or more clusters bonded together to ensure well-being of their whelps
Alpha - Leader of a mess' hunting parties, a position earned rather than given or born into
CRUNCH - The sound bone, tree, and stone make when an aereon strikes them with its tail
End of post - What this is!
