Venting in metaphor.

Suppose someone sits you down for a few hours one day, showing you how to properly hold a violin and bow, and giving you the basics of how to read sheet music. Once they're done, they take the violin and leave.
A few weeks go by with you not holding a violin. Occasionally you have a diagram to look at, but for the most part all you have to work with is the sheet music.
Then, that someone returns and hands you a violin (maybe the same one, maybe note, who knows?). You pick it up, remembering as best you can how to hold it, and practice playing some of the sheet music you've got for an hour or two. Then, they take it and leave again.
This cycle goes on for about a year.
Would you consider it reasonable for someone to expect you to be a good violinist at this point?
