Well, I was in the Army, but we weren't really in any better condition (and it's probably getting worse, now, with every competant person avoiding the military like the plague). About the only parts of the US DoA that hasn't fallen apart by now are the military band and what's left of the Army Air Command (which basically amounts to a squad of demonstration pilots that are grandfathered into the service and a partially operational transport fleet).

Oh, and possibly the cooks, but most of them are citizen contractors now, not soldiers.
