As far as the "Cage of Ice" goes, I think he's just referring to the backstory between Edel Blau and Anghel...the characters in his mind, rather...from the ancient past.

My theory at this point is that he's got an awesome story in his head (which he's apparently been making into a manga), but he's become so infatuated with it that, through his neurotransmitter mind-altering power, he's transposing it onto the world around him.

The fact that much of his delusion correlates almost perfectly to reality is something I still can't explain, though...
