Ultra Sun Pokedex Entry 4: Moving on (finally)
Last time, I ran into a bit of frustration at the hands of my two main fighters getting walloped.
After doing a bit of power-leveling and attempting to expand the Pokedex a bit (catching Abra's still not checked off the list...stupid thing. Did catch a Grimer and a Furfrou, however.), I managed to overcome the obstacles Ilima's Smeargle had set.
*puts a sword right through the damned thing's Pokeball* From Hell's heart I stab at thee.
Anyway, frustration dealt with, it was time to move on to the Verdant Caverns for Ilima's trial.
HA HA HA FUCK THAT NOISE FOR RIGHT NOW. I've got some more grinding, catching, and other sidequests to do!
For starters, there's a new feature they added in: Totem Stickers! Apparently these things are just plastered all around town, and gathering them...uhh, I don't know what they're for yet.
After a bit I found my first new area of the game next to the hotel: a spot for a Mantine Surfing mini-game where you can earn BP to trade for items and move tutoring. Excellent! ...Only problem is, you can't do it until you've cleared Melemele Island. Drat.
Didn't stop Team Skull from crashing the party, however...or Serenity from one-shotting the Grunt's Drowzee. Ahhhh, sweet catharsis.
After that, I helped a guy find his missing Meowth. Silly thing hid under a truck, I got some battle stat-booster items for my trouble. Yay? That out of the way, I went to check out the Berry Farm (more Totem Stickers here and in the House of the Broken Golf Clubs...odd), then detoured down to the Graveyard. I found the TM for Confide there (now leaving my collection in Alpha and Omega mode, as I have TM01 and TM100), talked with an office worker, helped him grieve by beating his Pokemon senseless with Serenity, and wondered if the antics of a sweet, adorable Popplio would help cheer him up.
Sadly, I'll never know the answer to that question: upon defeating him Serenity hit Lv 17 and evolved to a Brionne, and now she's even goofier than ever. When using an attack in battle, she makes a pose that I can only describe as "TA-DAAA! ^_^"
It's silly and adorable and I love it. Leaving Ivanhoot with Lexia and moving over to Team Popplio for this run was the right call.
All the while, the roster continues to update. Serenity and Obsidian's places are still secure (there is logic to my naming scheme here...it's not as blatant as Celine's "The Neverending Story" motif, but it will become clear), the backup members have cycled out to have more Type variety. Gauss, my Magnemite, is proving quite handy for catching new 'mons due to Thunder Wave, while Bella the Ledyba, Marcia the Mime Jr., and an accidentally-unnamed Gastly round things out.
So let's see, for going into the Verdant Caverns, I have:
-Water with Ice and Fairy moves
-Rock with Dark and Fire moves
-Bug/Flying with a highly defensive setup
-Psychic/Fairy with the Copycat move
-Poison/Ghost
-Steel/Electric with status affliction induction
I think I'll be good to go once I do some more power-leveling...now if I could just figure out what these two seekers of "the Blinding One" with the powerful aura sense and eccentric fashion sense are up to?
What is the Blinding One? Does Old Cthulhu stir from his sleep in deep R'lyeh? Did Team Rocket abscond with the beacon from the top of the Luxor Pyramid in Las Vegas? Was I a bit of a jerk saving and quitting just as my Rotom Pokedex made some noise about being really excited to check out the Trial? ....Yeah, on that last one I definitely was.
Anyway, next time.
