xaq_the_aereon: I caught it...now what? (Default)
[personal profile] xaq_the_aereon
On my lunch break at work (which, due to the hours I work, is usually around 5:00), I took the opportunity to get the last few Exp for Obsidian to make her grand transformation (catching a Fomantis I named Lillybit in the process!). Goodbye, adorable Rockruff pup...

Hello, badass Dusk Form Lycanroc!

...And still adorable, to boot. :D

Upon evolving, she also learned a new move that I decided to try out in the next battle, against a Lv 14 Pikapek.

...Oh no, not this move. No, see, I used it as a basis to finally pull off the full-force Z-Move of the Normalium Z:

Which, when used with Thrash as a base, has a baseline power of 190. Which, when added onto her inherent 72 Attack and new "Tough Claws" ability that makes direct-contact attacks hit even harder, made it quite understandable that the aforementioned Pikapek may finally come to land in Celine's SoulSilver playthrough, because I'm pretty sure I blasted that poor little bastard clear out of this game.

I'm a monster, what can I say.

Anyway, time to head for Captain Lana's trial and get the Waternium Z so Serenity can join the fun! ...Oh, and to switch back on the Exp Share now that I don't have to worry about unwanted leveling up.

My first speed bumpopponents on the way to Captain Lana are the Preschooler Twins, Isa and Nico. Sweet, my first team battle! They send a Petilil and Cottonee (so Grass in abundance), while I lead out with Gauss and Spectra.

...Oh dear, seems Mirror Shot is super effective against Cottonee. Night Shade puts the Petilil at about half health, but Gauss just straight up makes it a 2-on-1...I think the rage I felt at Hala and the time I spent powerleveling to get past him may have put my team a bit above the curve here.

One Night Shade later, and POOF, done. And Spectra levels up for it. Good ghostie! :D Side note: I love how "WAI! ^_^" female Preschooler NPCs look when they lose a battle. It's good for them to keep their spirits up!

Speaking of keeping spirits up, I guess Lv 25 is where Ghastly evolves, because Spectra just turned into my favorite gen-1 Ghost-type, Haunter! (Not a big fan of Gengar, what can I say...the disconnected hands are just too cool.) Night Shade is swapped out for Shadow Punch (though I should point out that Night Shade, having power equal to the user's level, is devastating late-game...right now, though? Not so much.), and off we go.

I go to Pokemon Refresh to give my team some victory hugs and oh crap I'm almost out of Poke Beans. Like, I've got one of each. O_o;; Also, it seems Spectra's still too intangible to pet. At least she appreciates the effort, though. :D

Up a few more feet and oh, hi Hau! ...And SuMo's resident emo triteragonist, whose name escapes both me and the game at the moment, giving Hau crap for having fun with their battle. Ugh, hate people like that.

Introductions are (callously) made, and Gladion throws down the gauntlet, wanting to test his partner, the chimeric Arceus-wannabe Type:Null, against me. As soon as he IDs as a member of Team Skull, the gauntlet is picked up. Let's rock, kid.

[ROUND 1: vs. ZUBAT]
Flying-type, and I open with Gauss. Thunder Shock FTW?

...Wait, why wasn't that super effec--OH! It was a Zorua! Very nicely played. Though, I would point out one problem...it still did over 50% damage.

Zap.

[ROUND 2: vs. ZUBAT (for real this time!)]

[SHAZAM!!!]

[ROUND 3: vs TYPE: NULL]

Right, he wants to see power? Wants me to go all-out? Alright then, Obsidian. Let's show him what you've learned.
[ONE BREAKNECK BLITZ LATER]
To the family of Type:Null : He was a fine intern here at Night Vale Public Radio, and will be dearly missed.

"It's not like me to slip up like that." No, Gladion, you didn't slip up. You simply came at me at the wrong time: had you tried me prior to me fighting Hala it would have been a fair fight, but here? You were 6-levels under par, had to deal with an Electric-type 1-shotting one of your mons, and a Lycanroc packing a gigaton punch.

...Aaand in come the Skull Grunts to ruin the actually someone insightful moment we were having. Well, if Gladion's gonna be a sensible prick to them, I guess he's not all that bad. The direct route to Brooklet Hill leads to a Pokemon Center, but there's a side path available here with a Berry tree on it, so let's--

Ah, another Crabrawler. Maybe this will be the one I catch?

...YES! Alright, finally. X_x; Welcome to the Pokedex Filler box, Glass Joe. Right, moving on...right into a fight with Breeder Cory, because he turned at just the wrong moment. X_X At least I had time to rearrange my team first, so Serenity gets to be the star of the show once again.

[ROUND 1: vs PARAS]
Okay, Paras is...pure Bug-type, right? I think Icy Wind should do the trick...
Yep.

[ROUND 2: vs SPINARAK]
Another bug. More Icy Wind? More Icy Wind. ...Oh, either it's not pure Bug-type or I'm forgetting type weaknesses, because that didn't quite finish it. Disarming Voice wasn't very effective either...y'know, except for the whole "finishing it" thing. Serenity hits Lv 27, Cory forks over his pocket change, and we continue.

Ah, and apparently that detour avoided another team battle with some Rising Stars. ...Lemme heal up first, guys, then I'll pulverize you. A quick stop at the Pokemart reveals an unsettling fact: I have 66,666P. Ominous. Selling a few "sell for lots of money" items takes care of that, though...though I pause at selling one of the Stardusts I got. See, this one I got from a lady in Iki Town back on Melemele when I showed her a message in a bottle I found at the bottom of the cave in Melemele Meadow. It was all the sand that she and her brother had collected as children, and I couldn't bear to turn her sentimental keepsake into a quick buck. Fortunately, the inventory has a "Free Space" area for items you don't want in the normal location, so in it goes.

Oh, and there's another "catch this 'mon for me and I'll reward you" guy here. He wants Corsola. Noted. Another guy here suggests I have a Grass-type with me to deal with the Water-types in Brooklet Hill...

I have a Water, a Rock (erf...), a Ghost/Poison, a Flying/Dragon, an Electric/Steel, and a Bug/Flying...so yeah, no Grass-type moves. But hey, Gauss can probably kick 20 kinds of ass here, right?

Oh, right, the Rising Stars. Sorry guys, didn't forget about you! Hello, Lauren and Justin.
[ONE LITERAL THRASHING LATER]
Goodbye, Lauren and Justin. And on to the next area...which I will get to next time.
