USPE 15: To the Battle Royale!

Just a bit of NPC trainer cleanup on Route 6 before being shoehorned over to my least favorite place in all of Alola.

[CLEANUP ROUND 1: vs Dancing Family Jen & Umiko's Jigglypuff & Igglybuff]
Serenity and Obsidian lead the charge. Jigglypuff gets retconned out of existence by Breakneck Blitz, and Igglybuff meets a cold end via Icy Wind. Yes, overkill much. Time to switch leads...y'know what, Bella's been all but ignored throughout pretty much this whole playthrough. Let's let her have some fun while she's still part of the team.

[CLEANUP ROUND 2: vs Breeder William's team]
[vs Bounsweet]
Aww, he led with a Grass-type...luck you, Bella! Silver Wind proves super effective and one-shots it.
[vs Mareep]
Now an Electric-type, on the other hand...well, what the heck, let's see how Hidden Power fairs...hm, mediocre damage, and now the Mareep's using Charge to build up power for something. Let's go for Silver Wind again.

[BAA-BAA-BOOM!]
Well, so much for that Charge. After that, I find out what William was blocking...a route back to Paniola Town? But this one leaves me stuck behind some buildings...but, in fairness, it also has the TM for Sleep Talk. Yay! Stoutland also sniffs out a Super Repel. Maybe Lillie will want that.

On the way out, Rotom tells me it wants to give me a nickname, "Roto-V." That's sweet of you, little buddy! I accept. :D Afterwards it fires up the Roto Lotto, which scores me a pair of Roto Exp. Points. Perfect, just what I need right now, a way to make my overleveled team even more overleveled! XD

[CLEANUP ROUND 3: vs Dancer Maika's Oricorio]
Huh, must be the Akalan variety of Oricorio. I think this one's Psychic...but regardless, 9 levels behind or not, it's still a Flying-type. Fun's over, Bella, GET OUTTA THERE! D:

If it's Psychic, perhaps Spectra would be a good match.
[ONE SHADOW PUNCH LATER]
Yep. And even without Rotom's Exp boost, Spectra hits Lv 27.

Anyway, quick side note: Route 6 is also called "Straight Street," because it literally goes straight up/down for quite a ways. It's no coincidence the Nursery is right next to it; this is the perfect spot to mindlessly run up and down while trying to hatch Eggs. Given that I have none to hatch, however...moving on.

[CLEANUP ROUND Oh that was it? Never mind.]

The south exit of Route 6 brings us to the eastern half of Heahea City, the part we couldn't get to before because of that guy on his Ride Stoutland sniffing around for rocks...who is now simply blocking off the Hano Grand Resort, the hotel on the east end of town that the bellhop who we need to show a Magmar to wanted to work at. Jerk. (Stoutland guy, not the bellhop.) Anyway, let's check out what we couldn't before!

First building up sounds promising: "Dimensional Research Lab." The satellite tower on it has a Totem Sticker...that makes 20, at which point Prof. Oak calls me up. No dude, I am not interested in your Totem Gumshoos. Totem or not, it's a Gumshoos. I head inside, aaand...darn, can't go upstairs. Oh well, later.

Next building down has an office marked "GAME FREAK." Oh joy, I've bounced into the Fourth Wall. A guy outside of it, whom I mistake for a Team Skull Grunt because he's squatting like them and dressed like them except for the lack of a skull bandana, informs me about Shinies. Apparently there's about a 4000:1 chance to catch one. Big deal, don't care for Shinies. If I catch one, fantastic. If I never see one, no fucks given.

One of the Game Freak devs asks me which of 4 colors I'd choose: Red, Green, Blue, or Yellow. The color choice just gives a statement that sounds like a rejected fortune cookie. Another asks me to come back when I complete my island challenge. Okay. The lady by him gives me a Lemonade. Nice. The rest just say stuff. Okay, bored now. Up to the 3rd and top floor.

"Aether Foundation." The hallway looks nice and pristine, let's check it out OH HEY IT'S THE GUYS FROM THE INTRO SCENE WHO WERE WITH DULSE AND ZOSSIE! ...Wait, weren't they chasing Lillie and Nebby? Well, they talk about wanting to help wounded/abandoned Pokemon, so....hrm.

One talks about a 'mon who won't leave its PC Box even though its Trainer has apparently abandoned it. Poor thing. I offer to find its lost owner, and get its Poke Ball (a Key Item called the Left Poke Ball.."Left" as in "Abandoned" rather than "The hand that goes on the ASDF keys," I presume) to deliver to them.

They tell me the Trainer was someone on Ula'ula Island. Right, that will take high precedence when we get there. For now, however, back to checking out this side of town.

Next house is home to a Mantine Surfing enthusiast who wants to talk to someone who tops the scoreboards of all 4 Island Surfing Routes. Noted. Next house...is the Pokemon Center, the eastmost end of where we could go before. Exploration ALMOST complete.

Almost because there's the matter of the Diglett Cave to the south. Going inside, I run right into Kahuna Olivia talking with some of the Aether Foundation guys. After checking out my Z-Crystal collection, she basically tells me to get my butt over to Kiawe's trial.

Okay, fine. Sidequest over. Sheesh.

On the way out I get attacked by a Zubat. The thing comes as a bit of a shock to me, as it's Lv 23. Suddenly the game's back on par with me...finally.

Wait, it's a Flying-type. Bella's a Bug-type.

RIGHT THEN.

Anyway, back to Route 6 and east to the Battle Royale stadium.

Yes, I have been actively avoiding this place. I honest-to-God hate this damn thing. What I WILL take, however, is the Pokemon Center to recharge and see what the shops are selling...ah, this has one of the TM Shops! Let's see what they've got:
Hail, Sunny Day, Rain Dance, and Sandstorm. 50K a pop for these is...a bit more than I can afford at the moment. I can get one of them, yeah, but I have no use for any of them at the moment (I don't think I have EVER used Sunny Day or Rain Dance...)

Oh, and having Waternium-Z extends the number of items I can buy at the Poke Mart. Nice. Don't need anything.

Back en route, I run into Meredith, the aspiring actress...again? Did I meet her before? Apparently so, she recognized me OH THAT'S RIGHT! She was the one dancing like an Oricorio before, back in Melemele Meadow! Sorry. Anyway, she wants a battle to catch up on old times. Okay!

[ROUND 1: vs Pa'u-Style Oricorio]
Aaaand the game's back to being under my level. D'oh! Oh well, she'll get a little challenge, since I swapped Bella out for Serana...sorry Bella, but after that close shave with the Zubat I figured your fun time was over.

...I'm sorry, did I say she'd get a little challenge? I meant she'd use Growl once before being Air Cutter'd to death. Still, Meredith's upbeat about the learning experience. I like her! :D

Next to where she was is a Lass who fangirls about Captain Mallow. I can't blame her, but...

"[T]hat Mallow Special...it's like a taste explosion in my mouth!"

...Okay, are we sure this whole game isn't fetish fuel at this point? Anyway, let's check out the store she's in front of...ah, a Malasada Shop. Odd, Hau isn't in here. Whatever, Serenity and I share a Dry Malasada. Hope she doesn't mind it Dry, being a Water-type and all.

Rotom interrupts the meal by saying I should save. I get that feature's purpose and all, but seriously? :/ Anyway, talking to the other guests reveals a Backpacker (I'm still certain they're fetish material) and a Veteran who comments on the amazing mental focus of a nearby Black Belt...who is asleep. XD

At the end table is a waitress with her Pyukumuku who is just a little too enthusiastic about spreading the joy of Malasada. She digs into one with her Pyukumuku, who I don't think should be sitting on the table during this whole

OH GOD IT'S GONE!! SHE ATE HER POKEMON!!

Oh wait it's just on her head now. WHEW!! That genuinely scared me. Afterwards, her coworkers give her some well-deserved grief, and she asks for a Moomoo Milk in order to be able to whip up a "Mythic Malasada."

Come to think of it, the Magmar House gave me one. Here ya go. I give it to her, and she gives me...a Big Malasada and instructions to buy a Mythic Malasada if I want one myself. Hmph! :/ And off she goes to spread the word of Mythic Malasada....right in the middle of her shift.

Next to the Malasada Shop is the Pokemon Fan Club. A chat with the leader reveals that Serana adores taking photos with us, netting us a new photo background. ...Okay?

...

ALRIGHT, FINE. OFF TO THE PART OF THE GAME I WAS TRYING TO AVOID.

Heading towards the Battle Royale Dome sets off a mini-cutscene with Gladion emoting about coming back here every time he loses, wanting to be strong enough to protect "her." Her who?

Maybe we'll find out next time. COP-OUT SMOKE BOMB!!!
