USPE 34: No rules

Time to finish things up at Chateau Skull. Out the door from the previous battle and...right into another Grunt. *facepalm* He wants to see my invitation. Obsidian, be a good girl and hand it to him, will you?

[ONE BRICK-BROKEN SCRAGGY LATER]
Thank you. Moving on with Erinys swapping to the front, and we run into Guzma's doorman. He asks us for the 3 passwords. Gee, if only I'd written them down somewhere OH WAIT.

First is a yes/no prompt. Greet 'em with a headbutt and a hearty NO!

[A FEW NO'S LATER]
Okay, this is getting me nowhere. I'll chance a yes...well, "chance" it anyway, like this guy could be a threat. XP Ah, apparently that was the proper response. First question: Which is Big Sis' (Plumeria, I presume) favorite move?
Poison Gas
Toxic
Poison Jab

CORRECT!!

Next question: Which is Big Sis' favorite Pokemon:
Steenee
Bounsweet
Tsareena

CORRECT!!

Final question: What is Big Sis' favorite drink?
Tapu Cocoa
Roserade Tea
Moomoo Milk

...Am I sure about my answers?
Yes!
NO!

ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!!!

And with that I pass the Team Skull job interview! ...Wait, I'm one of these numbskulls now? Ahh crap! D:

I'm gonna take my frustrations at getting suckered into that out on the last Grunt standing between me and Guzma's room, rooftop battle risks be damned!

[ROUND 1: vs Spinarak]
This bug's toast. Literally. Because Flamethrower.
[ROUND 2: vs Pawniard]
See previous.
[ROUND 3: vs Golbat]
And an Inferno Overdrive for good measure. Ahhhh that felt good! :D ...Except it's still able to fight, as evidenced by the Swift it hits her with. Fine. A Flamethrower for you as well to bring Erinys up to 48.
TOASTY!!

...I'm still not satisfied. But y'know what WILL make me feel better? A few minutes playing with the team on Pokemon Refresh. :D BRB.

[ONE SESSION OF PURE FUN AND A HEARTY BERRY MEAL LATER]
Alright, everyone's ready to go. In we go, up to 2 Grunts at Guzma's doorstep. They ask if I know what fear is....the fact that they don't stand between me and those kidnapped Yungooses makes it clear that they do. Good for them. And thus into the heart of darkness I go.

Hello, Guzma. I'm glad I could provide a change of pace for you, but I'm not here to deliver a beating. Return what you took and I'll be on my way. But you wouldn't be much of a "big bad" if you did the smart thing, would you?

Here. We. Go.

[TRIUMPH OR DIE]
[ENGAGE!!]

[ROUND 1: vs Golisopod]
Leading with your ace, huh? Okay. Give him a bit of Toxic, and then--Okay, I didn't see what that move was called, but it just one-shot Erinys.

Serana, keep him busy for a sec and let Toxic wear it down a little while I get her back on her feet, would you please? Guzma goes for Sucker Punch, but since I spent the turn using an item, it does sweet F.A. It connects next turn, however, but only because Serana was prepping to return the favor with Air Slash.

Golisopod goes down like a ton of bricks.

[ROUND 2: vs Masquerain]
Bug + Flying = massive Rock-type weakness. Sic 'em, Obsidian.

Its Intimidation activates. And then Stone Edge annihilates it.

[ROUND 3: vs Pinsir]
Pure Bug-type = Still weak to Rock...and frankly I'm done messing around with you, Guzma. Normally I adore your over-the-top full-throttle nature, but you stole from a child.

You've tried to show me how you are when going all out. Let me and Obsidian return the favor. Splintered Stormshards.

...Ahh, now that was satisfying. ^_^ Oh, and Rimefrost leveled up and leared Blizzard! Sweet! Glad to see Guzma thought it was great, too. :D

With that and a promise to beat me down no matter whose help he has to ask for (Forbooooode...), Guzma returns the Yungoos (which promptly just runs off) and leaves....oh, and he left that whole cache of Buginium-Z right there. YOINK!

[...TRIAL COMPLETE?]
I guess. O_o;

...

...

Y'know, Guzma did leave his seat vacant...and it does look rather comfy...

[OSUWARI.] ...What, were you expecting a link to an Inuyasha clip or someth--

[CUE GRUNT RUNNING IN] Ah crap! ...Oh wait, he's just gonna let me get away with it? Sweeeet. :D

Less sweet: Everyone (except the guy asking the questions earlier) is gone. Creepy. I ask him where everyone went, and he just replies with how his whole reason for joining was getting to run around and have fun with Guzma and Plumeria.

Y'know...aside from the whole "be a bunch of delinquent jackasses" bit, I can actually respect that.

I check out back and find the Grunt who was mulling over his problems before is still here, along with a few others. This time he actually opens up to me. I'm listening. :]

...And then he just flashes a couple of incomplete Skull Pose moves at me and says "that's the problem." Uhh, not following. You just...don't feel the whole Team Skull vibe? You can't move your arms that well? What?

Oh, you can't do the Skull Pose. Sorry, didn't mean to be such a smartass there. O_o; Apparently airing his problems, though, has helped him make up his mind to leave Team Skull. Ummm....good for you?

...Except two of the other Grunts aren't taking kindly to it. Uh-oh. Time for a couple of Grunt fights.

[VS Scraggy]
Oh crap, Erinys is still at half-health from the Revive. Whoops. Better finish this quick via Inferno Overdrive lest this guy get a lucky shot it. ...Crap, he survived. ...Oh good, he just used Scary Face. Right then, uhhh...Super Potion? And...another Scary Face that does nothing. XP Okay, threat's over, Venoshock him outta here. Thank you. ^_^

After that, the Grunts try to get the Runaway Grunt to fess up to why he's sticking up for me and saying he chose to leave on his own. He seethes a bit, then tells them off...and flashes a perfect Skull Pose.

Way to go, dude! (Like I said, aside from being a bunch of delinquent jerks and making life hell for other people, I kinda respect Team Skull. At least they got heart.) He gives me a Full Restore for my troubles.

Thank you! ^_^ ...Y'know, maybe passing that job interview earlier wasn't so bad after all? Anyway, out the front door and OH HEY IT'S THE ZOMBIE COP. And the Yungoos. Seems Zombocop here isn't keen to fight...that's a relief, neither am I. In fact, he heals my team up and goes to leave...at which point Acerola shows up. Apparently this guy's her uncle, Nanu.

Ah, so the guy's not a zombie? Okay. And apparently he's not here to lay the law down on Team Skull either...just for the cheap rent. Fair enough, but still, ain't you just a bucket of fun. :|

Anyway, my business is done here. *fires up Charizard Ride Pager* YO, TAXI!!

[WHHHOOSH!!]
And we're back at Aether House...well, Tapu Village, but it's a short jaunt. Or an even shorter Tauros ride.

[ONE HORRENDOUS CRASH LATER]
And we're back for real! ...And somehow Acerola beat me here on foot. Sheesh. Well, at least Yungoos is back with...its...trai...

Why is Hau not smili--

LILLIE'S GONE!?!?!

[ONE FLASHBACK LATER]
So she went with Plumeria to keep her and Team Skull from causing any trouble...I admire the resolve, Lillie, but...geez, no wonder Hau looked so broken if he couldn't protect her from them...

Don't worry, buddy. I got thi[SUDDEN GLADION INTERRUPTION]What the hell, dude!? ...Yeah, Lillie's the one who took Cosmog. What do you care? And how do you even know her?

...Wait. "Protect them?" You joined up with Team Skull to get stronger so you could...protect Lillie and Cosmog?

...Oh great, he wants to fight me. *facepalm*

[ROUND 1: vs Golbat]
I can't help but notice that my level advantage over NPC trainers is rapidly dwindling; I've gone from a 10-level advantage down to 6. I like the added challenge to an extent, though. Anyway, tagging Erinys out for Rimefrost, who deals with a double-dose of Acrobatics before Ice Punching it out of the air and bringing Obsidian up to 49.

[ROUND 2: vs Type:NULL]
Time to use that level-up. This thing's Normal-type, right? Which means Brick Break should one-shot it.
Eeeeyup...but it was actually a Dark-type, because that wasn't Type:NULL, but a Zoroark. Explains the lack of effectiveness info.

[ROUND 3: vs Type:NULL...for real this time!]
THERE'S the "Super Effective" notice. Sadly, it isn't a one-shot, and Obsidian takes a bit of damage from X-Scissor as a result.

Fine, you want to know what real power is, kid? Let's go.

[ONE SPLINTERED STORMSHARDS LATER]
Good girl, Obsidian. Type:NULLIFIED. And Serenity hits 49 and passes on Captivate...I would swear she's tried to learn that once before? Or was that Rimefrost? Anyway, Serana becomes the first to break Lv 50.

Take this lesson to heart, kid. If you can't stand up to me, you're definitely not strong enough to protect Cosmog yet. Yet. Keep at it. Now, let's go save Lillie. Hau, you coming?

...Hau? :[

...It's okay, buddy. Take a few minutes, get your head back on straight. Go have some malasada or something.

With that, I make one quick stop at the Pokemon Center to heal up, then Charizard over to Malie City and the ferry to catch up with Gladion. He seems to have a lot more respect for Hau than I thought, mostly over how he's trying to stand as Kahuna Hala's equal rather than living in his shadow.

Oh joy, Officer Nanu's here. :| ... ...Correction. Kahuna Nanu. Shit.

Seriously, dude? You want to fight me NOW? Fine...

[ROUND 1: vs Sableye]
Only Serenity has anything super-effective against him, so I tag out and let her shrug off a Fake-Out before Moonblasting it away. Erinys and Langstrom both hit 49, with Langstrom wanting to learn Lock-On. Nah, its accuracy is fine as is.

[ROUND 2: vs Krokorok]
Oh dear, weak against Water AND Fairy? Serenity, this is your lucky day! Let's wash him out with Sparkling Aria, shall we? His Swagger misses, but Serenity's song hits all the right notes.

[ROUND 3: vs Persian]
Another Dark-type. Moonblast? Nope, Fake-Out made her flinch. Power Gem hits decently hard, but Moonblast connecting wraps this fight up and oh good lord Nanu smiled and that is creepy as shit.

At least he heals my team up afterwards...oh, and gives me the Darkinium-Z. Wait, you mean that was the--

[GRAND TRIAL COMPLETE!]
Apparently so. O_o;

Nanu leaves with some painfully sage advice, and then oh hi Hau! Feeling better, buddy?

There's the smile. ^_^ So anyway, now we move on to Team Skull's super-secret base, right Gladiwhat do you mean they took Lillie to Aether Paradise?

I had my doubts about Lusamine before, but this!?

[ONE SKULLBOAT RIDE LATER]
Okay, we're here, the place no longer feels warm and welcoming, we have no plan for how to rescue Lillie, and I'm not feeling confident about my ability to dominate stuff anymore...so now's as good a time as any to call it a night.

Cya.
