USPE 39: Problem?
24 Dec 2017 16:54![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
We pick things up on Exeggutor Island, where the Alolan Exeggutors...who, by the way, are freakin' TALL...are acting a bit weird, shaking around like they're in a hurricane or something. I ask one of them if it's alright.
A Pinsir attacks me in response. No wonder it was acting buggy! Don't worry big guy, an Oceanic Operetta ought to clean you right off!
I check the next one and, sure enough, another Pinsir to go full-force on scrubbing away. No points for guessing how the 3rd one goes. Serenity and Serana hit 56, and one of the Exeggutors moves on towards the shrine where the Sun Flute is kept. I follow it along to figure out why it oh, it's giving me a lift up! :D Thank you so much, big guy! ^_^ A few boulders stand in my way after that, until Tauros goes head-to-head with them....for some reason I find a Totem Sticker here as well underneath another boulder.
o_O?? Whatever. After that, I move onward and...oh, there it is.
[YOU GOT THE FLUUUUUTE]
The moment I do the sky turns orange. Oh crap, did I just trigger a boss battle? ...Oh. No, the rain clouds just went away. What a lovely rainbow. :D With that, we head back to Seaside Village...and I immediately head back because I'm 99.999762% sure I missed something; there was a cave that, in Moon, acted as a tunnel up to the top of the cliff. Here, it's a dead end, but it does have an item in it...a Big Pearl. Dang, thought I came back for a TM, not a few thousand P.
Oh well. Time to head for the altar, I guess...assuming Mr. Black Belt's caught word that Poni Island once again has a Kahuna and she's more than willing to let me through. Or I could just let Serana go Doctor Octagonapus on him with Solar Beam or something. XP
....Ooooooor he could be replaced by a line of Team Skull Grunts who are blocking Lillie's path....that's new. How they're even remotely organized with Guzma having jumped into another world is beyond m-- oh. They heard about that and think we know how to get there to save him. ...Well, uhh, technically yes, kinda...oh. They want to make sure we're tough enough for the job.
*cracks knuckles* Fine.
[VS Ekans]
...They would lead with a Poison-type against Serenity. Too bad for them I taught her Psychic recently.
[POOF!]
She runs off, 5 more jump up to take her place with the intent to give 500% of their all to save their boss. Again, Pokenapping and Island Challenge Ruining aside, I gotta respect these guys.
[ROUND 1: vs Fomantis]
I Moonblast it to try and soften it up...boy did it ever. O_o;;
[ROUND 2: vs Mareanie]
Gonna tag in Langstrom for this one, let him test out his new move. Despite 70 accuracy, Thunder connects and instantly KO's the poor thing.
[ROUND 3: vs Houndour]
This looks like a job for Obsidian. One Brick Break does the trick.
[ROUND 4: vs Golbat]
You're up, Serana. Psychic does a fair bit of damage, and it retaliates with...Haze. It wipes out all my stat changes despite not doing any. Nice choice there, Grunt. Air Slash finished the battle, boosting Rimefrost to 56.
[LAST VICTIM: Raticate]
Boy is that ever the truth. Despite the risk of Dark-type effectiveness, I send Rimefrost out anyway....sorry Erinys. ^_^;; Sucker Punch stings, Wake-Up Slap KOs. Guess their 500% wasn't enough.
They take their loss with no shame, asking us to save Guzma. I don't get a chance to agree before Plumeria enters the fray...to chew them out for getting in my way in the first place. She then addresses us, apologizing for her treatment of me, Lillie, and our team, despite thinking she's beyond forgiveness. Guess she doesn't realize I already have.
Apparently the reason Guzma went with Lusamine on this crazy adventure is because he likes her; she actually acknowledged his strength. She then asks us to help her save Guzma. No need to ask. :] She gives me the Poisonium-Z in thanks. Naturally, I give it to Erinys to try out.
[TRIAL...COMPLETE?]
Sure feels like it. Later, Plumeria. With that, we move on to Vast Poni Canyon, where Hapu is waiting for us. She asks how things went on Exeggutor Island, and Lillie expresses shame in the fact that she had to rely on me for the whole thing. Nonsense, Hapu replies, helping each other out is what we have to do, both for humans and Pokemon.
If only the real world held these kinds of ideals. XP
[AND SUDDENLY, DULSE AND ZOSSIE OUT OF NOWHERE]
BWAAAGH!! Where'd you two come from!?! O_o;;; ...Oh, you are kidding me. You want to fight me again!? Why, so you can be the one to take on Necrozma? Dude, really...
[VS Poipole]
I swapped Langstrom up to the front of the party, so the X-Defense he used isn't gonna do much against a Thunder-charged Gigavolt Havoc. SHAZAM!! How you expect to take on Necrozma when I'm one-shotting your entire team (plus how you expect to do it with ONE POKEMON) is beyond me, Dulse. I admire the resolve greatly, but...yyyyyeah.
Hapu offers the olive branch and her desire to help them with their Necrozma problem. Dulse finally starts to see the benefits of having help and asks us to battle the light-devourer alongside him and Zossie. Again, no need to ask. Zossie asks a very poignant question before we take off:
Could a trainer even befriend a beast like Necrozma?
Given the franchise's history with other world-devastating monstrosities being the playmates of little kids, I'm gonna go with "yes." With that and Lillie's comment on the weird statues (which I'm guessing are signposts leading to the shrine?), we're off.
And 5 steps in we run into Veteran Harry. This is a promising start. XP
[ROUND 1: vs Beheeyum]
...WTF is that thing? o_O?? Looks like a rock, so I go for Flash Cannon rather than Discharge. Does a decent bit of damage before Langstrom dodges a Psychic. Another Flash Cannon and down the weird thing goes. Erinys hits 56 out of it, wanting to learn Dragon Pulse. As cool as that would be, I think I've got her moveset pretty well figured out. Obsidian also hit 56, meaning the whole team's on the same level once more. Yay!
[ROUND 2: vs Banette]
Ummm...Banette's a Ghost-type, right? Rimefrost, see if you can Shadow Ball it away.
[YEP]
Sweet. :D
Up ahead is a Backpacker, but a Carbink decides to introduce itself. I introduce it to a Quick Ball and continue on to meet with Backpacker Perdy; she seems confused as to why an Island Challenge goer would come all the way out here. I just wonder why I find the Backpacker's intro pose to be so damned suggestive.
[VS Spinda]
I take a second to get that song out of my head and then go for the overkill with Gigavolt Havoc. With that, Langstrom hits Lv 57...
And my reason for putting him in the lead comes to fruition: It evolves into a Magnezone.
Why now? Because Vast Poni Canyon is an "Electric Rock" zone where certain Pokemon can evolve. In Sun/Moon, this was the only place it could happen. However, as that Tumblr anon informed me the other day, Ultra Sun/Moon add the outskirts of the Geothermal Power Plant as one as well.
This actually put a major kink in my plans...you see, I'd decided before that point that I wanted to keep Langstrom in my party after all, as the Poni Island Representative. The logic for my choice was that Vast Poni Canyon was the only place I knew of where Langstrom could evolve, so I figured it would count. Then I got told of the fact that I could do it back on Ula'ula and had a massive oh crap moment.
Ultimately, however, I've decided this doesn't matter. Langstrom reached its final form on Poni Island, and that's good enough for me to count it as my Poni Island Representative. Besides, I'd made up my mind to keep it on the team quite a while back...back when I changed its nickname from Gauss, actually.
With that, the final form of my team is revealed for what we've been for much of this game. Whenever someone has a problem, whether it's a missing Pokemon or a world-devourer from another dimension, we're there to deal with it.
Got a problem? Just call on us:
Serenity (Primarina)
Obsidian (Rockruff Dusk Form)
Langstrom (Magnezone)
Viridian (Trainer)
Erinys (Salazzle)
Rimefrost (Froslass)
Serana (Noivern)
Yes. All the name choices up to this point, including Langstrom's namechange, have been leading directly up to another acronym-based team name.
And with that, I'm bringing this session to a close. XD
