USPE EX 01: After the End
Reloading my save after our victory against the Alolan Pokemon League and Hau brings the Problem Solvers back home. Mom's in the kitchen, asking how I'm oh hi Hau! :D
After he spends a moment admiring her Meowth's headcoin, he remembers why he swung by. Seems there's some interesting people looking for me...the press, perhaps? Alola's first Pokemon League Champion sounds like a big scoop to me, I suppose. As I head out, Mom wonders about starting her own Island Challenge with Meowth, figuring she can pass for a teenager herself. ...Sorry Mom, you've got your youthful looks and all, but not to the point you could pass for my sister. Anyway, I head outside to meet the reporters...
And it's actually the Ultra Recon Squad! Hi Zossie! Hi Dulse. :D ...Uhh, yes, Dulse, being a "Champion" means my team and I are in fact quite strong. You don't want me to prove it to you right here and now. I took on Necrozma and won, remember? ...Oh, you don't want to fight. You want me to help you catch the Ultra Beasts that came to Poni Island through the Ultra Wormhole. They ask me to come with...but before I take off, I have one change in the roster I've been wavering on making, and now that the original Problem Solvers have bested the Pokemon League, I'm going to retire one of them.
Sorry Langstrom, but I gave Necrozma the name "Lightbringer" for an additional reason. Rimefrost will be keeping you company at the Poke Pelago for a moment, but only because I need Nebby in my party for this.
Nebby...I'm sorry. I promise this won't hurt either of you a bit.
The N-Solarizer reunites them into Lightbringer's Dusk Mane form, replacing the comparatively useless Rock Gem with Nebby's signature move, the Sunsteel Strike. With that done, I track down a guinea pig to test the last piece of the puzzle out on and see what Z-Move the Ultranecrozium-Z that Lightbringer had when I caught it does.
Right away I get a hell of a surprise: Where the screen normally says "Z-Power" it now says "Ultra Burst." ...As I suspected. This power acts as a Mega Evolution, returning Necrozma to the "God of Light" form, Ultra Necrozma, that I battled before. The Lv 4 Wingull I test this out on somehow manages to survive being atomized and settles on simply fainting.
[OVERKILL DOESN'T BEGIN TO COVER WHAT YOU JUST DID TO THAT POOR THING]
Indeed not. This is, in all honesty, a terrifying prospect. If I'm right, I'll be able to use a Z-Move in that form, meaning I effectively have the same thing I feared about Rayquaza being in this game: A Mega Evolution utilizing a Z-Move. The power creep here is...alarming.
Should make dealing with things on Poni Island a breeze. Off we go, then!
[YO, TAXI!]
A moment after landing I remember that Lightbringer doesn't have any Affection or anything for me, and technically neither does Nebby, so I pop open Pokemon Refresh for a sec and good god you're an enormous shadow-kitty. A few Rainbow Beans and some belly rubs leave them sated and at full Affection, so now we're off to...wait, I actually don't recall there being a spot called "Poni Grove" on the map.
Probably past Mr. "Come back when you're Champ" back by Hapu's house...yep, sure enough, Hau's there talking to Miss Wicke. She congratulates me on my win against Hau in the final match, and gives us each a Big Malasada to help us against the Ultra Beasts. I don't get it, but Hau's understandably thrilled.
...And she gives me Type:NULL? But weren't you Gladion's partn--wait. His Type:NULL evolved into Silvally (in a disappointingly uneventful manner, as I recall). This is...is this one of the ones that was put on ice? Well, for now it can relax in Poke Pelago with all of its Memories that she gave me. I've got Ultra Beasts to chase down.
Sure enough, Z&D are here already, alerting me to the presence of a UB called Blacephalon. ...Another new one that wasn't in the original Sun/Moon games. Fascinating. Glad I brought Lightbringer along now, I may need its power for this after all. Zossie passes me a packet of 5 Beast Balls to go after it.
[THE HUNT IS ON]
According to Dulse, there's at least 3 of them. As I go to search for them, I wander past a Black Belt...and right into the gaze of Ace Trainer Jackson. Ready, set, prepare to be annihilated!
[ROUND 1: vs Huntail]
No sense holding back. I Ultra Burst into a Night Slas, nailing it pretty hard. Its Crunch is super effective, but doesn't do a whole lot despite Lightbringer trading Prism Armor for its attack-boosting counterpart, Neuroforce.
...And I was right. Ultranecrozium-Z has a Z-Move. It turns Necrozma's signature move, Photon Geyser, into a move called
...I'm not gonna use that just yet. We'll just let Photon Geyser deal with that.
[ROUND 2: vs Marowak]
Oh great, Dark/Fire...Dark being totally immune to Psychic and Fire being strong against Steel. Lightbringer, time to tag out. Serenity, you're up. Sparkling Aria scores an instant KO and a level up for my leading lady.
[ROUND 3: vs Braviary]
Well, no time like the present to see this new hyper-move in action.
...
Okay, you guys mislabeled that move. You called it "Light That Burns the Sky." What you meant to call it was TERA FLARE.
Needless to say, Braviary went down in 1 hit.
[GAME SET]
I head back to deal with that Black Belt, but someone else decides to interrupt me.
[VS. Blacephalon]
Bring it, candy man. It fails to hit with Mind Blown, but takes a direct hit from Photon Geyser...and drops because somehow it was at half HP? Weird.
After a cutscene I try to get back to that Black Bnope there's another one.
[VS. Blacephalon]
It hits with Mind Blown, and that somehow 1-shots Lightbringer...it also explains why it lost half its HP since the move involves ITS HEAD EXPLODING. In exchange for all that, though, the innate ability of the Ultra Beasts, Beast Boost, kicks in, giving all its stats a bump for scoring a knockout.
I tag in Serenity and try to take advantage of it being half-dead with a Beast Ball. 3 wiggles, but it pops loose and Shadow Balls her for a heavy amount, then it uses another before she can Oceanic Operetta the damn thing, giving it a second dose of Beast Boost to make it even stronger.
Alright, now I'm pissed. Fuck catching this thing.
OBSIDIAN. SPLINTERED STORMSHARDS.
The surviving teammates reach 68 in the process. Hau catches his and delivers it to Z&D, and we head home for some much-needed R&R.
And as short as this entry is, I'm leaving it there for the night because now I'm simply too pissed to continue. I needed time to cool off after Hala, and I need time to cool off now.
