xaq_the_aereon: I caught it...now what? (Default)
[personal profile] xaq_the_aereon
Last time, we took a little detour to the wrong route to catch a new teammate. Today...

[TEAM STATUS]

Tessa (Piplup) Lv 11
Astra (Starly) Lv 10
Nala (Shinx) Lv 10
Viola (Kricketot) Lv 7
Floofy (Bidoof) Lv 8
Belfries (Zubat) Lv 4

Route 203 gives us an option: Cut through some tall grass, or beat up a child's team.

[PEACE WAS NEVER AN OPTION]
[VS. Youngster Michael]
[Round 1: vs. Bidoof]

Tessa Water Guns about 3/4 of its HP away, shrugs off a Tackle, and Pounds for the finish.

[Round 2: vs. Zubat]

I tag in Nala and go for a Thunder Shock. It almost scores a 1-shot, then Astonish does next to zilch to her. Another Thunder Shock leaves Michael without any 'mons left...after which I find this was just protecting a Poke Ball and I could have just gone right the whole time. Which brings us across another youngling to go Skywalker on.

[OKAY, I KNOW I SAID PEACE WAS NEVER AN OPTION, BUT DO YOU HAVE TO BE CREEPY ABOUT IT?]
...Sorry.

[VS. Youngster Dallas]
[Round 1: vs. Kricketot]

Water Gun, Struggle Bug, Water Gun, KO'd bug. We climb the stairs past Dallas and

[AMBUSHED!]
[VS. Lass Kaitlin]
[Round 1: vs. Bidoof]

Well THAT was rude. A Water Gun makes quick work of that.

[Round 2: vs. Budew]
Water doesn't fair well against Grass, but Bug does, so I tag Viola in. Struggle Bug saps its Sp. Atk and half its HP, but Stun Spore paralyzes her. Absorb saps a little of her HP, and Struggle Bug wipes it out.

[Round 3: vs. Starly]
Flying calls for Thunder, so Nala's back out again. Thunder Shock makes quick work of things to wrap up this sneak attack.

Past her, a youngster asks for a battle to see if they're ready to take on the Gym challenge. With pleasure! :D

[VS. Youngster Sebastian]
[Round 1: vs. Machop]

Huh, my first Fighting matchup. Water Gun hits it pretty hard, while it pumps up with Focus Energy...meaning a 2nd Water Gun ends things in a flawless victory. Guess he's not ready for the Gym Challenge...unlike the young lady just past him who already has her first badge.

[FINALLY, A WORTHY OPPONENT. OUR BATTLE WILL BE LEGEN]
Wait for it
[DARY!]

[VS. Lass Madeline]
[Round 1: vs. Starly]
I tag out for Nala, who shrugs off a Quick Attack before Thunder Shock finishes things up.

[Round 2: vs. Bidoof]
I tag Floofy in for this one since she learned a new move against Sebastian. Rollout hits decently, while Growl drops her attack a bit. Rollout goes off again and all I can say is SPLAT.

[SMALL WONDER THAT MILTANK GIVES PEOPLE NIGHTMARES WITH THAT MOVE]
No joke. Past her, we have to make our first cave venture. I spot one of the burlier NPCs inside, so first, we'll make a quick trek back to the PokeCen. Viola's still paralyzed if nothing else.

Getting back to him...oh, he doesn't want to battle, but comment on the Poketch. He gives us some TM98s for Rock Smash, and a Poketch update that lets us use Hidden Moves...like Rock Smash...on the overworld map to clear obstacles!

...But first we need the Oreburgh Gym Badge. Right then, time to get through this cave.

[TWO BILLION ZUBATS LATER...]

Finally get 5 feet down to a challenge.
[VS. Camper Curtis]
[Round 1: vs. Shinx]
And I had Nala out front to deal with the Zubats, too. XP I have her Tackle, and it reciprocates, dealing less damage. Another Tackle is met with a Leer to drop her Def, as is a third. The 4th Tackle wraps things up.

A short ways (and 5 more Zubats) later, we reach the exit...which, of course, is guarded.

[VS. Picnicker Diana]
[Round 1: vs. Budew]
I tag Viola in again, who gets hit with Worry Seed to turn her Shed Skin ability into Insomnia. Absorb does nil, and a thumb slip causes her to Growl to drop its Atk. Absorb again does nil, and Struggle Bug almost puts it in the red while also sapping its Sp. Atk. It uses Growth to boost them back up, and eats a Struggle Bug for most of its HP. One last Struggle Bug ends the bout and nets Viola Lv 10.
[I THOUGHT YOU WERE SKIPPING LEVEL-UP ANNOUNCEMENTS?]
Normally, yes, but I'm making exceptions for when the level-up brings something special with it...but first...

[Round 2: Vs. Psyduck]
Water/Psychic if I recall, so Nala comes back out. Sure enough, Thunder Shock takes it out.

Anyway, I mentioned Viola hitting Lv 10 because that's where Kricketot evolves to Kricketune.

[HUZZAH! OUR FIRST EVOLUTION!]

And with that, we exit the cave and arrive in Oreburgh City. Right at the entrance we get escorted to the Gym...oh, hi Clint. ...WHAAAA!? The Gym Leader's not here!? Dang. Guess we'll have to go to the Mine and find him.

But first, I'm gonna check out the route up north, level up a bit, and see if I can catch something that'll be useful in the upcoming Gym battle.

[TEAM STATUS...BTW, CAN WE JUST USE THE NICKNAMES FOR THEM UNLESS THEY EVOLVE OR ARE NEW?]
Good call.

Nala, Lv 11
Astra, Lv 11
Tessa, Lv 12
Viola (Kricketune), Lv 10, learned Fury Cutter
Floofy, Lv 9
Belfries, Lv 7

Until next time, all!
