xaq_the_aereon: No seriously, what? (AereonWTF)

Normally this is the time of year I like to reflect on how the previous 12 months have been.

However, recalling anything for the first 11 has proven exceptionally difficult, as 2022 decided to wrap itself up by being utterly insufferable.

It kicked off with a car accident. A good Samaritan was in the right-hand lane stopped by a gas station, waving out the kid trying to make a left turn. Said kid failed to check for oncoming traffic in the left-hand lane, and as a result pulled out from the blind spot the other driver was making to be in front of me. I hit the brakes in time to stop...or would have if the roads hadn't been icy.

Nobody was injured, but my car's front-left is a bit smashed up and missing its headlight assembly...though, thankfully enough, the lights themselves still work, as does the car itself. Repairing it is not an option, however; the quote I got from a local auto body shop came to just over $10,000...for a 2001 vehicle probably worth less than 1/5 of that.

About a week later, I took a week off from work to try and relax for the holidays. I instead get treated to the pipes in my upstairs bathroom's toilet stopping up, causing a leak into the kitchen ceiling. The plumber I call in to fix it informs me that, due to the stoppage and the piss-poor placement of the pipes, they were frozen solid. This, mind you, was on Christmas Eve, so on top of being stuck with the problem for a few days, I had to pay extra just to be told my pipes were frozen. I was able to get it thawed myself by cutting a hole in the ceiling (that drywall was gonna have to go anyway since God-knows-what had soaked it)...

And in the morning prior to the issue being resolved, i.e. yesterday morning, the neighbors had an upstairs pipe freeze and burst.

My entryway got a bit of water damage, including in the floor and around the door. A plumbing service got in and finally got their water shut off...and in their brilliance shut *mine* off as well. From about 3 PM yesterday to roughly 11 AM today, I had barely a trickle of running water in my place...except, ironically enough, for the upstairs toilet, which had gone from being the one water thing NOT working to the one water thing that WAS working. It took a few hours to fill up, but it was the only thing keeping me from completely losing my marbles.

And that brings us to today. My water is back on, my car still runs...and my front door refused to open when I came back from a quick grocery run. Remember the water damage to the entryway? Well, long story short the wood under the door's threshold bowed up from the water/ice buildup under it, wedging it against the door.

I had to do a full-force shoulder slam to get my own front door open...a problem I have since remedied by removing the threshold. Given how the door now easily shuts, opens, and locks, I think I may just leave the damned thing off.

But still...yeah, as much as I'd love to sit here and talk about how the REST of 2022 was, December has been too much of a colossal SCREW YOU to be able to even recall any of it. A few small mercies are about the only thing that kept me from having a complete breakdown, but I honestly can't recall the last time I was able to go even a single day without feeling stressed out about stuff. For now, part of me just sits in dread of what the last week has in store.

...So yeah. I know there was a fair bit of good that came out of 2022, but...I just can't really see it in the wake of how this year has ended.
