That's the best way I can describe the sound my laptop made when I got home from watch today.
It's not surprising...it'd been having issues all night last night, so I figured it might be on the verge of going..didn't expect the power source to self-destruct, though. (To all my geekier friends, yes, this did indeed release the magic smoke.)
No worries, though, problem is under control. Cost me $1200 to GET it under control, but it's under control. Which is to say I bought a new one.
Still working on getting everything I had on it back...with any luck I'll be able to pop out the hard drive and get it into an external case long enough to transfer the stuff I'd neglected to put on the external I bought last week, which thankfully wasn't much. The only part I'm really distressing over is my loss of iTunes music...but, again, if I can salvage it, all is well.
Oh well. I'd been thinking about upgrading anyway. I'll just take this as God saying "go for it".
