As a few of you know, I've been into the card game "Yu-Gi-Oh!" for a long time now. One of the larger groups of players I hang out with are on the Gaia Online forums, where we mostly got together in this one particular thread.
A few months ago, said thread was moved by the site admins from the Table-Top Gaming forum to the Chatterbox forum, a move that pissed a lot of folks off since the Chatterbox has a bad reputation for being full of spammers and idiots. I tried to help ease things up by making a new thread in the TTG forum...ever since then I seem to have been pissing more of them off, between the fact that I, in their eyes, gave in to the oppressive, Nazi-esque rule of the mods and my own rather strict nature against people getting too off-topic (which was fairly rampant in the old thread and, in truth, was the reason it got moved).
For weeks I'd tried being nice to these guys and just nudging things back on track, seeing as I didn't want to play the bad guy against folks I consider friends, but last night a few of them effectively told me to fuck off, and...well, I snapped and locked them out of the thread a few days.
I thought I'd feel better about showing that I was actually going to enforce the rules I'd set for the thread regardless of who it was against...instead I'm left hating myself for stabbing my friends in the back like that.
I dunno who hates me more at the moment, them or myself.
Thankfully, another friend of mine, who has a much cooler head and is much better suited for such a role, has taken the reins on the issue. He's been down this road himself and, while he was a black sheep in the community for a while, he's been back in everyone's good graces for a good amount of time, so that at least gives me some hope.
Still haven't had the nerve to talk to any of them after apologizing for my actions, though. Don't think I'm going to for a while, if ever.
