For the past half hour or so, I've been busy leveling Peco up to get the defensive skills off of one of the master, Fahl (found in Arena...this is the same dimwitted drunkard horse-man who was supposed to keep an eye on your party when they were kids after Balio and Sunder captured you. No wonder you seem vaguely familiar to him...anyway, you have to fight 30 fights without camping or going to an inn to unlock him when he becomes available.), and I come to realize something.
1) The strategy I'm using to speed-level Peco (who was at level -1- when I started this, compared to Ryu's 34 and Rei's 31...this was done intentionally so I could later abuse Masters with him...like I'm doing now! :] ) is pretty slick.
Step 1: Put the party in Chain formation (gotten from another master in Wyndia...one of the grown-up kids you played Hide & Seek with when your party was younger) with Rei in the lead. This gives everyone the same Agility as Rei, who is naturally blindingly fast. (Current: 71. Compared to Ryu's 10.) This way, my whole party not only goes first, but usually gets an extra turn each round.
Step 2: Get into a fight in the area around Dragnier. First round, have Rei attempt to Pilfer something, Peco defend, and Ryu assume Tiamat form (Shadow + Trance genes. 13 AP to fire off, 7/turn to maintain). This assimilates the whole party into a giant serpent with awesome stats (and still maintaining that speed boost!), plus a wicked breath weapon that generally wipes my opposition out.
Step 3: Repeat step 2 until Peco hits Lv 7. 6 Levels gets all of Fahl's skills, including the awesome Resist (1-turn invincibility).
2) Fahl is, in fact, an awesome Master for Peco. He gains 4 additional HP, 1 point of Attack Power, and 3 points of Defense per level-up. He also loses 3 Agility and 3 Intelligence from what he'd normally get, but given that those are his crap stats anyway, I'm not too worried.The +4 HP and +1 Attack is made even more insane by the fact that he ends up with the highest natural HP and Attack by the time he hits Lv 99 as it is, and that two of his techniques are breath weapons, which deal damage based on his current HP. End result: This piddly little plant becomes THE ONION OF TOTAL DEVASTATION!

Date: 12/24/08 18:22 (UTC)Oh, and yes, Peco IS turning into a death machine. He is currently at half of Rei's level (17 vs 32...and Fahl still hasn't coughed up Resist! :[ ) and currently his HP, AP, Attack, and Defense are just about equal. (Which more than makes up for his 17 Intelligence and -1- Agility.)
EDIT: Make that 18 vs 33, they both just leveled up.
HP: Rei 159, Peco 205.
AP: Rei 54, Peco 60.
Attack: Both 159.
Defense: Rei 168, Peco 173.
Intel: Rei 78, Peco 17.
Agil: Rei 78, Peco 1.
Jimminy Shinkickers. O.o;;
