xaq_the_aereonAs I probably mentioned before, lately I've been playing one of my favorite MMORPGs, Phantasy Star Online, again (albeit in Offline mode...even if I had a Gamecube and a modem for it, the 'net is too slow up here for that kind of stuff, hence why I had to quit WoW). I've been working with 2 new characters, a FOmar modeled after my online avatar, Wilren, and a RAcaseal named Miyuki*.
Wilren's admittedly been tough to play, as expected of a Force (mage-type character for non-PSOers) who's not too great with tech-casting...Miyuki, on the other hand, has proven insanely lethal. Most characters, on their first run, I wouldn't even consider going after the first boss until they were level 10-12, and wouldn't even think of going for the last one until about level 40. I just beat the game on Normal mode at level 25...and only because she leveled up mid-fight.
Main reason: Her Mag (for non-PSOers: A Mag is sort of a cyber-organic familiar you have with you in the game. You feed it items from time to time to boost its stats, which are then translated to stat boosts for your character.), an OPA-OPA, has the following stats:
LV: 200 (max)
DEF: 31 (+31 Defense)
POW: 35 (+70 Attack power...which at lv 25 is a -lot-.)
MST: 42 (Complete waste on Casts, aka Androids, since they can't use Techs and thus have a max MST of 0. Not surprising since this Mag was originally used by a RAmarl, a human Ranger.)
And the big reason why this thing turned her into a killing machine:
DEX: 102 (+51 to Attack Accuracy, a Ranger's primary stat)
This brought her ATA from a non-modified base of 96 up to a modified one of 149, which was awesome, since for firearm-style weapons (pistols, machine guns, rifles, and spreaders for the base types), Attack Accuracy is the stat used to determine whether you can equip a weapon or not. In this case, the insane boost allowed Miyuki to use a number of rare weapons that basically annihilated everything in her path, including the money-maker for the run through, the Meteor Smash (spreader), which I can basically describe as a one-shot room-sweeper. Not one-shot as in it only goes off once...one-shot as in I never had to fire it at anything twice, short of bosses...in which case I usually busted out the Guilty Light, a freaking PLASMA CANNON...
...which is honestly the funniest weapon I've ever seen. Seriously, who builds a plasma cannon with a STUN SETTING?! (No joke. The special attack with it freezes the target.)
But yeah...clean sweep, total domination...hell, up until the Ruins, the last area, nothing was even able to hurt her.
Like I said, funny what difference the right equipment can make. :]
