A buddy of mine over at the RPG World World forum (no typo there, there's 2 "World"s) was looking at the grim probability of not being able to make it to Otakon with the rest of us this year, due to lack of transit and/or funds for transit. We all tried to come up with ways to help him, but none of us were close enough to conceivably give him a ride or anything.
I dunno if it was just my desire to meet EVERYONE from the board there, or the fact that it was his birthday when I made this offer, or WHAT...but I made the offer of paying for a bus ticket to get him down here. *shrugs* I suppose the fact that my military status allows me to get tickets cheaper might've had something to do with it, I dunno.
But still, the more I think about it, the more it perplexes me. What is it about us, the most destructive, hateful, heartless species to wander this planet, that drives us to such acts of generosity and compassion when it comes at such great expense to ourselves?
Heh, humanity....never have I seen such an enormous pile of contradictions.
