Yeah, that sounds about right.
As for what's been going on lately.....well, earlier today I went out to a local gaming shop that was hosting a Yu-Gi-Oh tourney, and decided to put my revamped Dragon deck to use. As it turns out, today was only the prelims to see who could get into the ACTUAL tournament tomorrow, so I only had one opponent.
Here's where things got amusing: He was using a Dragon deck that was the exact antithesis of mine.
My deck - Red Eyes Black Dragon & Armed Dragon set
His deck: Blue Eyes White Dragon & Horus the Black Flame Dragon set.
The match got rather ugly right off the bat: On his first turn, he pulled out Kaibaman, and used its ability to pull a Blue Eyes right out of his hand onto the field. Then he activated Graceful Charity, drawing 3 cards and discarding 2, including a Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV 6....which he promptly brought back with Premature Burial and used Level Up on to turn it into Horus The Black Flame Dragon LV 8...2 dragons with 3000 ATK points. One word: ACK.
Unfortunately for him, however, my starting hand was just a smidge worse: Red Eyes Black Chick, Red Eyes Black Dragon, Lord of Dragon, Armed Dragon LV 5, and Pot of Greed, plus the Level Up! Dragon which I drew. So I start things off with Pot of Greed...and what do I draw? Red Eyes Darkness Dragon and The Flute of Summon Dragon. I had to force myself to keep my poker face there.........and failed.
So, for my opening move: Played Lord of Dragon, activated the Flute to allow him to call Red Eyes Black Chick and Armed Dragon LV 5 from my hand, sacced the Chick to summon the REB Dragon, sacced THAT to summon the RE Darkness Dragon, and then used Level Up to transform Armed Dragon LV 5 into Armed Dragon LV 7.
Now here's where it gets interesting: Red Eyes Darkness Dragon has only 2400 ATK, and Armed Dragon LV 7 only has 2800 ATK, plus the ability of destroying every monster on my opponent's side of the field whose ATK is lower than the ATK of a monster I discard from my hand. That would help here except for 2 things: 1 - I have no monsters with more than 3000 ATK (Armed Dragon LV 7 being my strongest), and 2 - My hand is empty anyway.
This is where Red Eyes Darkness Dragon's effect comes in nicely. It gains 300 ATK and DEF for every dragon in my graveyard, which at this point includes:
Red Eyes Black Chick
Red Eyes Black Dragon
Armed Dragon LV 5
...beefing it up to a nice fat 3300 ATK. So naturally, I decide that the first thing I want to do is get rid of his Horus. SCORCH. Life Point scores: Me 8000, him 7700.
From there on out things got pretty nasty. Later on he pulled the same stunt I did, using Lord of Dragon and the Flute of Summon Dragon to get 2 more Blue Eyes White Dragons out, bringing the one I destroyed on turn 2 back with Call of the Haunted. I figured he was gonna try to pull some fake Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon card on me at this point.....nope. He did something even more devious: Delta Attacker. it allows 3 identical normal monsters to unleash a direct attack. This would've been a 9000-point instant kill against me if it weren't for 1 thing: Waboku, a trap that reduces all battle damage for a turn to 0.
At this point I was getting kinda tired of the match, so I activated the one trap I'd been holding out on for a few turns: Burst Breath. It's effect? It destroys every monster with a DEF lower than the ATK of a dragon that I sacrifice, and while the Blue Eyes White Dragon is indeed powerful, its 2500 DEF is no match for Armed Dragon LV 7. This left his field clear for me to deliver the final blow with my ridiculously powered-up Red Eyes Darkness Dragon. (I had lost 7 more dragons during that time, bring him up to 5400 ATK.)
Final score: Me 2700, Him 0.
Now to see how things go tomorrow. ^__^
