xaq_the_aereon: I caught it...now what? (Default)
Well, the big weekend finally arrived...as of 1:20 local time yesterday, I took my first trip out of the US and landed in Toronto for Fan Expo.

DAY 1 REPORT:
-Found out I'd lost the form I had spent $60 on to get a deluxe pass for the weekend, so I had to skip the long line and go into the insanely long line...went there at 6, got in at about 8:30. Then putzed around the con for a while, familiarized myself with the location of everything, and, having missed everything I might have been interested in for that day, went back to the hotel.

DAY 2 REPORT:
Got in line around 9. At 10, we finally got in. Went down to the gaming area and saw an advertisement for a new dice/card game, Upset. Tried it, got hooked, bought it, made a point to come back at 1 for a little prize tourney they were having.

About 12:20 I stepped out to grab a bite to eat...HUGE MISTAKE. Apparently, the convention center had hit and badly exceeded its maximum capacity, so nobody could get back in...and as of right now (5:30) they STILL can't.

...So I said the hell with it and went over to the Hippo Bus Tour to get a view of the sights of Toronto. Bad news for you, Fan Expo: THIS WAS WAY MORE ENJOYABLE. The fact that it's a bus/boat hybrid was awesome enough, but the tour guide was awesome, hilarious, and the whole city was just...wow.

DAY 3 PROGNOSIS:
I may not go back to the convention tomorrow. I'm thinking a visit to the museum is in order instead, followed by a late-night trip to the airport to get myself through customs and checked into my flight for tomorrow morning, so as to dodge a 4 AM wakeup just to make it on time. (That, and to be entirely honest, a cold stone floor and a suitcase-pillow may be more comfortable. A Hilton this may be, and awesome to look at the room may be, but HOLY CRAP THAT BED SUCKS.)

All in all, I have to say that, while Toronto on a whole is so awesome I almost don't want to leave, this trip was a bit disappointing. :[
