xaq_the_aereon: I caught it...now what? (Default)
So apparently my mom's not interested in having a full-sized table for out on the patio after all. Instead, she only wants something to stick between a pair of lounging chairs for setting drinks on rather than something we could eat dinner and play Scrabble with.

That suits me just fine on two fronts. First, it'll be even smaller and even easier to build than the entertainment center (which, BTW, is now a staining and oil rub away from completion!), but even better is that I don't have to buy any more materials to make it; the leftover scraps from the first project will be more than enough to take care of this, meaning I'll have significantly less waste from this AND I effectively got an additional $100 worth of patio furniture on top of what we could have paid upwards of $400 for out of this...all for about $80.

Given how much time and effort I've put into all this, though, I'm starting to see why furniture stores charge as much as they do.

On a more personal note, I've set aside one of the scrap 2x4s for a more personal project. Long story short, it's been too long since I've had a wooden sword to goof around with, and I'm gonna treat myself to making one. (Here's hoping I can talk my dad into letting me use some of the stuff at the high school's shop room for this...if nothing else I kinda need a lathe for the handle.)
