xaq_the_aereon: I caught it...now what? (Mic In Trouble)

Guy in question had 16 lighters in his suitcase. SIXTEEN of the damn things. Not even collectors'-type ones that you'd expect to pay a few hundred bucks for...no, these were all plain old cheapass Bic lighters, the kind you can buy a thousand of for about 2 bucks.

Now, never mind the fact that carrying a fueled lighter or matches in your checked baggage isn't allowed here (y'know, fire hazard and whatnot), I just have 2 questions.

1) What need would anyone have for having that many lighters?
2) No, seriously, WHAT NEED WOULD ANYONE HAVE FOR THAT MANY BLASTED LIGHTERS?

Guy was a good sport about it and, as it turns out, they were all empty, but still...that was just weird.

In case you had to shrink wrap a whole lot of wire splices on the plane.

Considering you can't get to your checked luggage on the flight, I don't think it'd help much...

There is the issue of them being empty. He could've been keeping them as an "oh sure, I'll collect something oddball" kick, but, really. One doesn't goad security, no matter where that security happens to be.

So one really shouldn't goad security at an airport!
