xaq_the_aereon: I caught it...now what? (WTF Coyote!?)

Apparently you're not the only one applying voices to pigeons, [livejournal.com profile] kjorteo.

Apparently that disclaimer at the start of the game of doing actual voices for the cast wasn't a joke.

The majority of them go over my head, but I'm familiar with the seiyuus for Ryouta and Shuu through the other characters they've portrayed (amusing fact: the character I recognized for Ryouta, Crow Hogan from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's, plays a Blackwing deck, which consists entirely of birds) (less amusing fact: the sinister bastard Shuu being voiced by the lecherous bastard Touga from Revolutionary Girl Utena is way too appropriate, but...Bobo!? WHAT THE FUCK!? (told ya.)), and the fact that Okosan is voiced by Norio Wakamoto is just stupefyingly awesome.

Sakuya's seiyuu I should be familiar with, but it's been a while since I last saw Evangelion, so I can't put a voice to mind for him....fair enough, I'd stick with the Pidgeworth voice anyway. It just works so damned well with him, what can I say?

..Anyway, think I'm finally starting to zonk out, so...g'night!

TVTropes had a lot of fun pointing out that Norio Wakamoto, who wished he was a bird, is now getting his wish.

I don't watch nearly enough anime to know anything at all about prominent Japanese voice actors, though I always mentally had Murderbeaks pegged as sounding something like the guy who does Eddie in Guilty Gear. Oh, well.

Good guess. That's exactly who that is!

Looking through his roles a little more, I see he also provided the voice for Shuu Shirakawa from the Super Robot Wars series.

Which means that from now on, instead of "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy," I am mentally designating Shuu Iwamine's theme music as "Dark Prison" instead.

It is?

Well, then.

Have to admit, he does strike me as pretty much the perfect choice, given that the personalities of the two Shuus he's now portrayed just match perfectly.

So, wait - this means that the game has been succcessful enough in Japan for her to be able to hire eight PROFESSIONAL voice actors?? I assumed the drama CD was a fan thing!

It's entirely possible that they ARE fans. I just imagine it as Japan's equivalent of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.

Well then the fact that the game was successful enough to be that widely known is just as encouraging!

I want to ask Moa about all of this on Tumblr, but I'm worried I'm misunderstanding something or I'm just going to sound stupid....

DO IT

If only because that's actually a really good point and now I want to know too.

I just can't figure out how to ask "so does anybody actually like this bird game in Japan, and also are the people on your drama CD famous or not" :S

Of course they're famous, that part is obvious when you look at their names and the fifty bajillion or so things they've done each

I mean Norio Wakamoto is Okosan for God's sake

So the question you should be asking is "How did you raise the money for the voice talent, production, etc. to make the drama CD?" or some variant thereof.

No, what I mean is, I should be asking "are these people actually in your drama CD or is someone on Tumblr not really clear on the difference between your daydream actors list and the people who actually appear on your drama CD"

Easy way to check: who exactly is in her daydream actors list? (The "CV:" credits are everywhere in the actual game but I can't read Japanese.) If there are any discrepancies between the names she wanted and the names people are actually saying are involved now, then that at least means that Moa didn't make the latter up.

I can save you guys some effort on that: By hopscotching from the official Hatoful page to the official Drama CD page, I found a page you can buy the Drama CD from, with the cast list posted on it....in full Japanese.

Since Google Translator decided to give me the literal translation of the casts' names, I opted to pull up Norio Wakamoto's Wikipedia page and compare his name written in Kanji to the cast list...sure enough, he is indeed Okosan's, and if that bit's accurate, it's safe to say the rest is accurate as well.

Also of interest, something I saw on the Drama CD page: there's another one in the works, and it has the most badass cover art ever.

"PRIMAL FEATHER"?! I know this game has taken absolutely everything I've said as a joke and then run with it except made it a million times stranger, but... this is going too far.

You're kinda like me in that regard, it seems: more often than not, something spouted out as a joke winds up being a good enough idea to go with.

I do have to cut you a bit of slack for the Maintenance Room incident, though...when I mentioned there was something very useful that we'd want in there, a save point did kinda top the list after the save and fast-forward buttons went away.

Also, after a bit more internet hopscotch from Moa's Tumblr, I also found the official HatoStore! :D

I think a fair bit of the merchandise is rather neat, especially the St. Pigeonation's T-Shirt...but the very first item listed there just hit me with about 10x as much WTF force as the entire game has.
