Today I decided to get a better look around Vancouver by taking one of the tour buses, which have this neat "hop on, hop off" deal where your ticket's good for the whole day, allowing you to ditch the tour mid-way if you get somewhere you want to check out for a while, then get back on another bus doing that route later without the slightest hiccup in the action.
This came in especially handy for me twice over when I realized that one of the stops was close to the Vancouver Aquarium...if there's one thing I'm a sucker for, it's marine life, especially dolphins and sharks. Even managed to catch a dolphin show while I was there, and that made the whole day just on its own (with the surrounding rose gardens and large-enough-to-get-lost-in park just making things even better).
But, like I said, the hop-on-hop-off thing came into play later on when the 2nd bus I got on (about 3 hours later...I could have stayed at the Aquarium all day, personally!) went into a part of Vancouver called "Gastown," which has this rustic, almost steampunk look to it...and, I have to admit, I fell in love and just had to get off again and wander around for a while.
That "a while" ended up stretching into over an hour, at which point I figured I'd best get back to the bus...upon checking the map, however, I found I was only 11 blocks from my hotel and decided to hoof it.
All in all, an excellent day.....but holy crap my legs are killing me! X_x
