Yesterday was both rather awesome and rather sucky.
First, the awesome. A group of us here at the base had volunteered for some community service work out in an area near Dulles Airport. Turns out we were repairing some fences around a shelter for people with drug addictions and mental disorders. I must admit, while I feel a great deal of sadness for the suffering these people must feel (although admittedly a bit less for the ones who brought it on themselves), their housing is *NICE*. The bugs were a bit of a problem, but we got a pretty good system going on getting the front fence built. Took all of about 3 hours total.
The guys working on the back fence didn't have so much luck. They had to replace one of the posts......which was buried about 3 feet into the ground in a huge cement block. This is where Murray started to show off just how tough he was........he ripped the 20-foot top support beam from the fence off by himself, hauled it over to the waste collection area by himself (mind you, this think weighed about 185 lbs and was 20 feet long. That was a hell of a balancing act!), and then tore the post out, cement and all, by himself.
Showoff. :b
Anyway, we got done around 2:30, and piled into the supply van (and I do mean piled.......I had to take a seat on the floor because we were overfilled, since one of our chiefs had decided to go home instead of back to the base, leaving his passengers with us.), and shuttled back to Andrews.
Thus bringing about the suckage.
Me: ......You guys feel that?
Dustin (driving): Yeah, the van's rattling.
Murray: Think we bent a bearing on it?
Me: .....Dude, slow down. I got a bad feeling ab----
Right rear tire: ********KABOOM!!!!!!!!!********
1/2 mile from the main gate of the base, and we get a flat. Not just a "let the air out" flat, we're talking "see the inside of a tire tread from the BLAST" flat.
So what's Murray do? .......Gets the jack and hikes the van up. He's strong, not stupid. But yeah, we got the spare (a REAL spare, not a "donut".) on, and got back to base. The burst, however, left me with a nice little headache the rest of the day.......still kinda there, actually. >_x
Oh well, it still felt great. I swear, maybe I should've been a Seabee? .........*cracks up*
