A while back, I translated Textoris Melodia Funus/Funeris as "Weaver of the Song of Death."

However, after we finished BBL up today, I saw something that bounced around in my head until just now when it clicked: A few times, Anghel made reference to an impending disaster he called "the Funeral Song."

Funeral Song...Melodia Funeris.

Apparently my translation was off: Anghel was calling Ryouta and Nageki "Weaver of the Funeral Song," which I am now 100% certain is his name for the intended global outbreak of the Charon Virus planned by the Hawk Party.

In other words, the Funeral Song was the endgame of Operation Hatoful.

Honestly, I don't know whether to be impressed, or disturbed, by Anghel's grasp of reality when his mind is permanently perpendicular to it. Some folks look at the world through rose-colored glasses...he's viewing it through a fucking kaleidoscope and yet still getting the picture more or less exactly right.

One thing I've learned about visual novels is that the graphics often serve next to no purpose whatsoever; 99% of the impact from the game is in the storytelling; the truly great ones are basically epic novels in Choose-Your-Own-Adventure format.

You could take Fate: Stay/Night or Clannad and replace the character images with Picasso-style renderings, and still have most of the same overall effect that made them the classics they are....it's honestly the main reason I thought that ZZT VN idea from a while back was so feasible.

Anyway though, yeah, as long as the story's written as well as Hatoful's was, you can make a great VN no matter how absurd it initially appears.

As for the 2nd Pact of Old reference...
