On a whim, I went out to check the mail one last time for the day, since I was supposed to receive that new YGO playmat I designed a while back today (went with the version with the writing in the mirrors, for the record).
I figured that since I was out, I'd do a little stargazing, seeing if I could get a look at the Big Dipper. At first, I thought that it was being obscured by cloud cover...then I realized those weren't clouds, but the Aurora Borealis, the Northern Lights, in full blaze.
All the times I tried getting a view of them up in Nome, where conditions were much better for seeing them, and the most I ever got was a meager smudge of pale green...and now, here in a metropolitan area where the city lights can drown them out, I get a full show with a constellation highlighting the display.
Damn I wish I could've gotten a photo of it.
