xaq_the_aereon: I caught it...now what? (Default)

Something useful I learned today.

2-litre bottles of soda are, pint for pint, apparently a better deal than 12-packs of cans.

Add in the fact that something about stuff in the bottle just tastes better, and I think my days of buying this stuff by the can are over.

Don't forget to account for deposits, if your state does them. I like cans because not only is it portion control, you always have it just as fizzy as the first.  We just stock up when they're on sale. you're really paying for convenience with cans though.

If AK did that I'd probably stick with the cans...and probably be about two or three thousand dollars richer than I am right now. XP

Had to edit this post when I first made it because I included some faulty math; a minute ago I was redoing it in my head and realized I was working with the wrong can sizes; silly me forgot cans are 12-oz, not 20 like vending machine bottles.

So, retrying this...

Sale that local Safeway had the day I did all this: 2 12-packs for $11, or 3 2-litres for $6.

1 can = 12 oz
2 12-can packs = 288 oz
$11 / 288 oz = 3.82 cents an ounce

1 2-litre bottle = 67.628 oz
3 2-litre bottles = 202.884 oz
$6 / 202.884 oz = 2.96 cents an ounce

Even without factoring in the sale I already knew the bottles were the better deal; the price tags listed a "per pint" price on them as well, so even at non-sale prices it would have been more for the money.
