That's "Hey there!" in Inuit from what I understand.

Just thought I'd let you lot know I haven't turned into a Xaqsicle up here just yet. (It's actually pretty blasted warm up around here.)

Not really much to say so far. Been getting around Nome for the most part in my dad's truck, but Monday we went out ATVing. THOSE THINGS FNARKING **RULE!!** ^_____^ We also went to check out the beach where he and other members of the GPAA (Gold Prospector's Association of America) were doing what they do best: Finding really friggin' valuable rocks. I think the grand prize goes to my dad's friend Chuck who found what we all believe is a meteorite a little larger than a softball. I swear, that thing was just plain cool. ^^ While I haven't found any gold up here m'self (as opposed to my dad's multi-thousand dollar haulings.....grr.), I've taken a pretty strong liking to pyrite (fool's gold), mica (a silvery, flaky metal that looks nice until it rubs off on your hands), and especially quartz (which I've found a few nicely-sized rocks of, as well as a few smaller stones I'm hoping to get polished into marbles for a pendant I'm making.).

Well, before I go, I should warn you I've got a bad pun to share:

AMBUSCH (AM-bush) n. A hangover that hits you out of nowhere.

Later!

Mica is very cool, especially if you can get big enough pieces to peel it apart and still have something worth holding.

Thin sheets of mica are just neat, since it's one of the few rocks you can -see- through. Windows on the cheap!

While you're in Nome, watch your underpants!
