xaq_the_aereon: I caught it...now what? (Ryouta)

Since we've already established that doing any of the manga is a no-go since Kjorteo's going to be out, I was thinking if there was anything else the rest of us could do just for laughs. Then I remembered an idea I threw at David the other day of making Startropics, one of my favorite NES games, the target of a new "Stumbling Through" video, and it occurred to me:

There's quite a few characters in that game that Mike can talk to...enough that one person trying to do all the voices might be a bit much.

So, how would you guys feel about, just for kicks, we do a partial-group Stumble Through? David handles the controls, we add some flavor to the dialogue, and the game leaves us all cracking up from time to time before running us all over with a bowling ball. (Obviously, David's answer will hold a little more weight here than everyone else's; he would be in the driver's seat, after all.)

What do you guys think?

Okay, so apparently our little fluffpup likes Startropics as much as I do, so now the thought of leaving him out of it doesn't feel right. Sorry about that, Kj. :[

Scratch this idea, then...any other thoughts?

Bear in mind that I don't know what Startropics is and so have no idea how well this would work, but if the others would like to, I would be prepared to try it out... of course, we would also not want to do it without him if [livejournal.com profile] kjorteo himself would be interested in participating in it!

Startropics is an NES game, kind of a top down action dungeon game? It's got a bit of a following as a classic, and if I remember right there was some humor involved? Think Crystalis crossed with Zelda, maybe?

Spoke with Teo very very briefly a second ago, he's just logged off to go home... he did mention that he really loves the game, so maybe it would be best to wait for *that* opportunity. Let's wait for him to weigh in, I think.

I'm ok with it, though.

For OTHER thoughts, well, there is the Cards Against Humanity game, doesn't have to be broadcast but we can still get together and play. As for OTHER things for us to do... if we're wanting a retro experience... let's see what's in my emulation/game folder...

How about ADOM? (No, no, i'm only kidding. that's Bad Times all around, 10 years and I haven't beat it yet.)

Dungeon Keeper 1 or 2, if we feel like RTS.... Myst.... VVVVVV (gravity switching puzzle maze)... Willy Beamish (Adventure game)... Princess Tomato In The Salad Kingdom (shadowgate-esque)? Out Of This World (adventure)....

Any of those interesting? I mean for general game experiences, not so much voice acting. In fact, I would actually really recommend Out Of This World (AKA Another World) since there are no voices or text at all - just puzzle solving and trap avoidance.

"Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom"

...I recall ads for that in Gamepro magazine from ages back, and I still have to ask: Are you sure you're not making that up?

On the other hand, that sounds just weird enough to be interesting.

It's real! It's also highly sought after, apparently! Princess Tomato is an actual game, and it is apparently a "gem" as well. The player is a cucumber that is also a knight, your sidekick is a young parsnip, and everyone is a vegetable.

I tried playing that once. I remember it being a sort of first-person point-and-click ... think Macventure only without all the cruelty. (Though there may be unwinnable-later-if-it-turns-out-you-forgot-the-thing points, I could be misremembering/making that up but I'd have to go look that up and confirm either way.) I still managed to get extremely stuck when I just could not for the life of me figure out how to get past ... whatever I was stuck on, it's been so long I honestly can't remember what the problem was anymore either.

EDIT: NEVER MIND KJORTEO IS DUMB
From TVTropes:
"Gameplay alternated between a puzzle Point-and-Click interface, a few mazes, and "battle" sequences that are actually games of Rock-Paper-Scissors. Although a few sequences can leave the player stumped, it's impossible to make the game unwinnable and only one round of Rock-Paper-Scissors actually has negative consequences for losing. Obscure, quirky, and a bit short, the game's nothing if not unique."

You know, I didn't get back to my real computer until well after the situation was already resolved so I don't have to comment on this any further, but ... I just have to say, being referred to as "our little fluffpup" made me <3 like you would not believe. :3 <3
