And then my Eevee-loving side grabbed the idea and ran with it: make the plot Eeveelution-centric.
Thus, enter Professor Tree-name, Pokemon Professor specializing in the field of attempting to discover new Eeveelutions. After touring and surveying the new region and seeing a portion of the vast array of Pokemon species to be found down there, including a few new variants of known species (such as a Doduo that looks more like a twin-headed secretary bird), Professor Tree-name decides it would be the perfect place to do their studies. Within the next few years, they've managed to get a number of research centers set up all across the region, studying the effects of the new ecosystem on Eevees in controlled environments...
Then the region's Team Whatever hits the fan. A region-wide syndicate of eco-maniacs, they start out attacking the research centers on the grounds that introducing a new species to the area like that could be devastating (even though strict measures are taken to ensure that doesn't happen), but eventually expanding to try and destroy the very concept of humans having Pokemon at all in a "no one has the right to ensnare nature's creatures" mentality. Bombings at Pokemon Centers and the regional Poke Ball Factory, assaulting Trainers and stealing their Pokemon...you know, the usual Team Whatever BS.
Throughout the story, a number of new Eeveelutions are found; in the cave-laden area near where a meteor struck millions of years ago, Terreons' fur has developed into a harder, granite-like surface, and their increased musculature and hardened claws have enabled them to burrow through even the strongest rock. The research center in the southern highlands, in the meanwhile, has begun to see an increase in its Wyspeon population, whose lighter bone structure, feathery coats, and newly-developed wings enable them to soar up into the rafters of the complex, where the staff have difficulty getting them to come back down.
Those regions are not just home to new Eeveelutions, however...legends across the region have told of ancient, powerful creatures that once waged a great war upon one another, attempting to assert the sky's dominance over the earth and vice-versa, nearly devastating the whole region in their lust for power. These legeneds also speak of a third being, a draconic nightmare from the bowels of the earth that sealed them both away before returning to its slumber.
Just the kind of legends you don't want a group like Team Whatever hearing about, but still, maybe their power was responsible for these new forms? And if so, what might the domain of the third have in store?
...So yeah, I'm basically just brainstorming a good way to introduce some more Eeveelution types, particularly a Ground- or Rock-type (that can use Rock Smash and Rock Climb), a Flying-type (that can use Fly), and a Dragon-type (that can use some Dragon-type moves), mostly because the lack of being able to use those kinds of moves with an all-Eevee team has annoyed me over the years. :b
