Yesterday afternoon a friend of mine offered to take me out to this Yu-Gi-Oh sealed-pack tournament (for those of you who don't know, that means we didn't bring any decks or cards with us, but picked them from a set of packs they had available....preventing anyone from knowing what kind of deck they were gonna have until the start of the tourney.) I must've had a good deal of fortune for it, becuase the cards I got were just perfect for the most ruthless combo known right now.
While I DID get eliminated in the second round, the first round was just plain PATHETIC.
MY STARTING HAND:
Premature Burial
Inaba White Rabbit
Catapult Turtle
Pitch-Black Power Stone
Horn of the Unicorn
My opponent won the coin flip and went first. He put a monster down in defense mode and then coughed up 1000 Life Points to cast Delinquent Duo, which resulted in me having to discard two cards, one of his choice and one of mine. He randomly selected Catapult Turtle, and I ditched Pitch-Black Power Stone. End of turn.
I drew my card...and very nearly busted up laughing. I then summoned the monster I'd just drawn: Magical Scientist. Then I fired off Premature Burial, paying 800 Life Points to bring back Catapult Turtle, slapping the Horn of the Unicorn (+700 ATK) on it.
For those of you who don't know of this combo, here's how the cards work:
MAGICAL SCIENTIST: Allows you to pay 1000 Life Points to bring out a Fusion Monster of level 6 or lower for one turn.
CATAPULT TURTLE: Can "launch" a monster at your opponent to deal half of its Attack Points as direct damage.
During the pack selection I managed to nab about 6 level 5-6 Fusion monsters with about 2000 attack points.
Starting to get the picture now?
Yep, you probably guessed it...brought 3 of them out (since you can only have 5 monsters out at a time) for 3000 Life Points (Leaving me at 4200 for those keeping score), and the Catapult Turtle locked, loaded, and fired them right at my opponent, dropping him to 4000. Then I brought forth the other 3. Now it's 1200 to 1000, my favor.
Then I loaded the Magical Scientist (300 Attack Points) to drop him to 850.
Final move? Not quite. The Catapult Turtle has 1700 Attack Points (1000 normal, plus 700 for the Horn). What's 1700 divided by 2? Well, sunuvagun, it's 850! SUICIDE LAUNCH!
Splat.
So yeah, round 1 was a sinch. Round TWO, however, I didn't fair too well..I was able to hold my opponent off for a while, but let's face it: I got creamed due to a lack of defenders.
But hey, it was fun, even if I didn't win anything. Just getting out of this base and getting to have fun was reward enough!
