xaq_the_aereon: I caught it...now what? (Default)
[personal profile] xaq_the_aereon
Took a break to grab some food, and now I'm back at it.

A short ways into Wela Volcano Park we run into Sightseer Mariah, who wants to see our team. Okay!

[ROUND 1: vs. regular Meowth]
One thing I love about the Sightseers is that they bring non-Alolan Pokemon to the game even for people who never get a chance to catch one. However, if I wanted to see a regular Meowth I could just go back home, so Serenity, be a dear and wrap this up, would you please?
[ONE DISARMING VOICE CRIT LATER]
Thaaank you. At least Mariah's got a chipper attitude about it, taking a rather adorkable selfie in the aftermath. Ahhh, tourists...

Moving on, we run into one of the "Seismic Sisters," a trio (presumably all Backpackers) who love volcanoes. Well, they certainly came to the right part of town for that. I go into the cave next to her expecting a rough climb to the top...instead it's just POOF, I'm there, and the Trial Guide at the top of it heals my team. Sweet!

The other Trial Guide suggests I have Water- and Rock-type moves ready to deal with Kiawe. ...*glances over at Serenity and Obsidian* I'm good. And off we go to face Kiawe and his team of Alolan Marowaks, a truly magnificent dance troupe.

His Trial is kind of an interesting one: you have to look for what changes from between 2 very similar dance routines and correctly identify the alteration. The concept sounds challenging, but given that the first one is the most difficult and it's nothing more than a posture change...yeah.

The first dance involves 3 Marowak striking a pose, followed by them striking a different pose: the middle Marowak is looking up. To congratulate me on solving that mystery, Kiawe sends his Marowak to battle me.

[ROUND 1: vs MAROWAK]
A Bubble Beam clenches it because I'm still too high level for things to be fair. Seriously, Serenity's 11 levels above this poor guy. Hydro Vortex would have just been wasted.

The second dance routi--*facepalm* You're not even trying, Kiawe. There's a Hiker RIGHT THERE, HOGGING THE SPOTLIGHT. To congratulate me on solving that mystery, Kiawe sends his fine Hiker to battle me. ...No, seriously, that's what he said. "Come, my fine Hiker!" "Alola!"

[ROUND 2: vs HIKER DAVID....'s Magmar]
You seriously thought I was gonna have to attack a human? Anyway, another goofy challenge, another Bubble Beam finish.

The final dance caught me off guard because once again they switch things out from the original games, or at least between Sun/UltraSun and Moon/UltraMoon. In Moon this dance's difference was "The huge fucking Salazzle." This time around, however, it actually took me a moment to notice that HEY THERE'S ONE MORE MAROWAK THAN THERE SHOULD BE AND I THINK IT MAY BE SLIGHTLY HUMONGOUS. Also, Hiker David's in the mix, dancing like a goof. Good for him. XD

...Given that my choices include "The Totem Pokemon" and "The big Pokemon," maybe this one's still just as challenging as before. Anyway, time to annihilate a Totem Pokemon.

[FINAL ROUND: vs TOTEM MAROWAK] Aura: Speed Boost
...Shit. It used Detect right as I got ready for Hydro Vortex. ...It didn't block it completely, but it limited the damage to about 20%. That blows. After that it calls in a Salazzle...and then eats a Bubble Beam full force and gets KO'd. Now to deal with the newcomer, but not before Spectra levels up and wants to learn the move that drove me nuts against Hala, Payback.

WHY YES, I THINK I SHALL. Sucker Punch was too unreliable anyway. Back to the Salazzle, who Poison Gasses Serenity before getting Bubble Beamed off a cliff to bring her to Lv 30. 4 to go. Serenity strikes a well-earned victory pose; atta girl! :D Let's deal with that poison in Pokemon Refresh and then get back to the game.

With our victory we snare the Firinium-Z, 10 Quick Balls, and the Ride Pager for Charizard, Sun/Moon's replacement for the Fly HM. Now I can get back to Melemele Island or other parts of Akala Island whenever I like.

Far more important, however, is that now I can catch Pokemon in Wela Volcano Park. You can probably guess why by now, but I'll explain once I find what I'm looking for. For now, however, a hike down the volcano's hillside, where we meet the other two Seismic Sisters (yep, all 3 are Backpackers) and Ace Trainer Jim, who wants to show me his Pokeymanz. Okay.

[ROUND 1: vs Noibat]
Oh dear, and I haven't tagged Serenity out yet...which means his Dragon-type is about to get Disarming Voice'd. TADAAA! Next.
[ROUND 2: vs Kadabra]
Guess he can't find someone to trade it back and forth with. Well, it's a Psychic-type, so let's tag in Bella one last time. One Silver Wind does the trick and brings Bella up to 28...a fitting send-off gift for her, I think. Serana and Gauss also level up. Just to Jim's left, around a corner, I spy a TM, but run into a Cubone before I can get to it. 2 Disarming Voices put it at 1% HP before it calls for help....and gets no reply. A Great Ball adds it to the Pokedex Filler collection.

Nice, but not what I'm looking for. Anyway, I grab the TM for...Rock Tomb. Okay, but....I already have that move? O_o; Oh well, at least I can use the "use 1 TM and then the TM for the old move" PP restoration trick for it now. Oh, and there's a Poke Finder spot here too. Let's check it out.

...Aaand done. Back to the hunt.

Okay, it's finally shown up. The one I came here to catch. A Salandit..specifically a FEMALE Salandit, the only one capable of evolving into Salazzle. Right, time to add to my team.

Quick Ball fails to catch her immediately, so we do it the hard way. Spectra makes a sacrifice play with Curse before getting Dragon Raged out, then Gauss hits her with Thunder Wave to paralyze her. The Curse brings her down to about 10% HP, at which point the Ultra Ball goes...

...

And makes the catch! And with that, my Akala Island Representative is caught.

Bella, I thank you for your service, but I've decided you're going to be swapped out instead of Gauss...let's be fair here, I hardly ever used you, and if there was ever a time for you to learn Baton Pass, this is it. And so, Bella retires from the team, and is replaced by Erinys, named for the Furies, the goddesses of revenge in Greek mythology.

Rotom suggests I save...and you know what? This is an excellent stopping point. My mission in Wela Volcano Park is accomplished, and while she has some serious leveling up to do to catch up to the rest of the team (and to evolve into Salazzle, both of which will likely happen together), the simple fact that Erinys has been added to my roster is all I can ask for at the moment.

Until next time.
