USPE 45: Ascent

Apologies for the hiatus. Work and a return to Breath of the Wild dragged me away from this for a while.
My run at the Pokemon League resumes from the hole Lightbringer, the Necrozma of my game's dimension, left in the side of Mount Lanakila. To the right is a cave entrance. Hope nobody in here got hurt...well, Backpacker Peren seems to be okay walking in circles around the icy stone that made this the only spot in Sun/Moon to evolve a Glaceon. Oops, NPC trainer battle time.
[VS Emolga]
Aww, how cute. Serana Air Slashes it to minimal effect because dopey me forgot Flying-type moves don't do squat to Electric-types, but it still deals about 2/5 of the Emolga's HP in damage...which is good because it Encored her, so now that's ALL she can do. The next one puts it in the red, with Discharge doing a smidge, and the third one blows it away.
From here, I can go NORTH to an Ace Trainer, EAST to a dead end, or SOUTH to a Veteran.
[WALK SOUTH]
Okay, a bout with Veteran Ella it is then.
[ROUND 1: vs Pyroar]
Well, she was going on about how meaningless Z-Powers are unless you use them, so...Serana, Devastating Drake this silly looking thing, please.
[KABLAMMO!!!]
And it's done, leveling Serana and Obsidian up to 64.
[ROUND 2: vs Milotic]
A Water-type calls for Langstrom's Electric attacks. Thunder's stronger, but the accuracy leaves me unimpressed, so I go with Discharge to put it at about 1/3. Its Blizzard glances off rather harmlessly. Poor thing. Another Discharge puts it away, bringing Langstrom and Erinys up to 64 as well. Wow, 4 in one battle! I wonder if next round will give Rimefrost a level to complete the set and get everyone up to Serenity's level?
[LET'S FIND OUT. ROUND 3: vs Claydol]
Ice and Ghost both work nicely here. Perfect. I kick things off with Hail to ensure Blizzard hits next round, after which Rimefrost dodges an Earth Power. Nice! Blizzard crits next round and seals the deal...but doesn't give her nearly enough Exp to hit 64. Darn. :[
Heading further south nets the TM for Ice Beam. Sweet! Still, I'll stick with Blizzard on Rimefrost. The extra power's nice, and since she has Snow Cloak, firing up Hail to ensure it hits also boosts her evasion, so that's a win-win combo right there. I have one other teammate who can use it, though, and as stupidly powerful as Hydro Cannon is, it serves no purpose for Serenity; she can't move the following turn, and she already Sparkling Aria and, with some Z-Power, Oceanic Operetta for Water-type power. Giving her some diversity here would be nice, so I'm gonna go ahead and replace that.
Afterwards I run into an Absol. Somehow I haven't caught one of these yet, but a Quick Ball fixes that. Huh. Down the other path I run into Collector Minty.
[VS Florges]
Whoops, forgot to switch Rimefrost to the front. A quick tag out and...Misty Terrain? You waste your turn on Misty Terrain? Okay, fine, let's add a little Hail to the equation and shrug off a Petal Dance before Blizzarding you out of here, shall we?
...Or it could only do about half your HP in damage, allowing you to crit with another Petal Dance and put her in the red. Okay, screw you. Time for the Ghostium-Z to give you a Never-Ending Nightmare....and THAT gives her the Exp needed to hit 64 and catch up with the rest of the team. Yay!
After that, I recharge the team, put Serenity in the lead, and go to give Rimefrost the Icium-Z...only to realize I don't actually have that one. ...Whaaaaaaaaaa!? Anyway, heading all the way south leads outside into a raging blizzard, where Hiker Anuhea is woefully underdressed for the weather.
[LIKE YOU HAVE ROOM TO TALK]
Very true.
[VS Gigalith]
This ice would be nicer if I'd left Rimefrost in the lead, but I think I can deal with a Rock-type in one turn via Oceanic Operetta. ...Except it has Sturdy. It wastes its one turn on Stealth Rock before the hailstorm knicks her and KOs it.
A little more south and I find 2 things: a PP Max and proof that this is a dead end. Crap. I head back inside and suddenly get the genius idea to put Erinys in the lead because HEY DOOFUS SHE'S A FIRE-TYPE AND EVERYTHING HERE IS ICE-TYPE. A random encounter with a Glalie proves the wisdom of this choice.
[FWOOSH]
With that in mind, I swap her back to the Firium-Z just in case I run into something extra-tough and need to nuke it with an Inferno Overdrive. I proceed back to Veteran Ella, hang a right, incinerate another Glalie, and--
Are you kidding me? The Icium-Z is just sitting there. In a totem pedastal. No Totem Pokemon guarding it.
...
...
YOINK!!
Guess I can fix that issue with Rimefrost now, huh? Right then, with her back in front, I head back to that Ace Trainer we skipped earlier. It's good that you think you're gonna with this battle, Jada...I mean, you're not, but it's good you think that. Stay positive. Now let's see if you can give me something weak against Ice to test--
[ROUND 1: vs Vanilluxe]
--I said weak against Ice, not...oh never mind. Shadow Ball dings it, Ice Beam does next to nil, and Wake-Up Slap puts it to sleep.
[ROUND 2: vs Mismagius]
You'll do. Let's see what the Ice-type Z-Move is. Whatever it is, should be stupidly powerful with Blizzard fueli--
[185-POWER "SUBZERO SLAMMER"]
Oh heck yes. :D ...But what was with the Z-Pose? Whatever, it was a one-shot, so I'm cool with it.
Up ahead is the exit, and a Veteran/Ace Trainer tag team. I move Erinys and Rimefrost to the 1st/2nd slots. Time to sing these guys A Song of Fire and Ice.
[ONE RED WEDDING, COMING UP]
...Maybe not that bad of a beating, but yeah, Breon and Kaimana are going down.
[ROUND 1.0: vs Glalie/Vikavolt]
I can't help but notice that Wake-Up Slap is super effective against the Glalie while Flamethrower is super effective against them both. Let's see if we can end both in one hit. Vikavolt insta-drops, bumping Serenity to 65, but Glalie only loses 65% HP before hitting Rimefrost back with a Shadow Ball to deal some severe damage.
[ROUND 1.5: vs Glalie/Forretress]
Taking no chances with that Forretress. Erinys Flamethrowers the Glalie and boosts Serana to 65 before I put the Subzero Slammer on it for the...NEAR knock-out. Damn. It then Gyro Balls her for the ACTUAL knock-out, leaving me to tag in Langstrom.
[ROUND 2.0: vs Forretress/Tyranitar]
It starts things off with a Sandstorm. How Darude of you. I have Erinys pass her turn to Revive Rimefrost (how Revive safely works on a Ghost-type is beyond me; most games I play that's instant re-death!) while Langstrom fires off Magnet Rise in case any more Groudn-type BS is coming...after which Tyranitar Stone Edges Erinys for a one-hit and the Forretress Explodes against Langstrom. Dammit, now I gotta revive another teammate....but at least Kaimana's out of the fight.
[ROUND 2.5: vs Tyranitar]Serenity tags in and, after Langstrom passes his turn for a Revive on Erinys, Moonblasts the bastard. He Stone Edges her as well, but doesn't do nearly as much damage. Moonblast hits dead air thanks to Langstrom's Flash Cannon stealing the kill and boosting it and Erinys to 65.
[FINAL ROUND: vs Bisharp]
Between her HP and the sandstorm I tag Serenity out for Obsidian, while Langstrom goes for Thunder...and scores the knockout. Whoops. At least Obsidian came out just in time to hit 65.
Past them and back into the blizzard, I find another ladder. Figuring another fight's coming I heal up my team...no fight, though. Just a trip to the Pokemon Center at the top of the hill. Figures.
Inside I find a lady I've wanted to see all game: Madame Memorial, the Move Reminder. In exchange for Heart Scales, she'll teach any of your Pokemon a move they'd learned in the past but no longer had, as well as ones they never got a chance to learn. For starters, I have Serenity trade Ice Beam away for a move I shouldn't have passed on, Misty Terrain. The status effect protection will be very helpful, as will, I'm sure, protection from Dragon-type moves for my other teammates.
Much nicer, however, is a move I never got a chance to have Serana learn: Boomburst, a Normal-type Special Attack with 10 PP, 100 accuracy, and 140 power. That should come in handy later.
[NO KIDDING]
For now, though, it's getting late, so I'll hopefully remember to pick this up tomorrow. The end of the main game is almost in sight...see you then.
