With some team-hunting and level-building done, time to continue!
[TEAM STATUS]
Belfries, Lv 10, learned Mean Look
Astral, Lv 12
Tessa, Lv 13
Nala, Lv 13
Floofy, Lv 10, learned Rock Smash via TM
Buster (Machop), Lv 10
Also caught:
Balboa (Geodude), Lv 5
My primary combatants for taking on the Gym, which specializes in Rock-types, will be Buster, Floofy, Tessa, and surprisingly enough Belfries; Absorb, her primary attack, is Grass-type, making it effective against Rock. Astra and Nala will be on support duty when the time comes for that.
First, though? We gotta find the Gym Leader down in the mines. A few steps in, we're warned of Pokemon that look like rocks (Geodudes) and that some of the workers may challenge us to battles. Fair enough. On a whim, I shift Floofy to the front, and almost immediately get attacked by an Onyx, making me think this was a mistake. Fortunately, Buster tags in before it can Bind and Revenges it into oblivion...ah well, it was male anyway.
A few minutes and a multitude of random encounters go by before we get anywhere interesting. Then this guy shows up.
[VS. Worker Mason]
[Round 1: vs. Machop]
Oh crap, Fighting vs. Normal!? Nah, tag out for Astra, Floofy. It tries to get Revenge for the tag-out but doesn't do much, and thing Wing Attack one-shots it. At least he's a good spart about the loss.
Around the corner I meet a miner with a red helmet and red hair. Unique character model, eh? Could be our missing Gym Leader. He uses Rock Smash to bust a boulder open, and then confirms he's the Gym Leader.
[MISSION COMPLETE?]
I guess? The next worker, looking much like the previous, decides he wants to throw down.
[VS. Worker Colin]
[Round 1: vs. Geodude]
Okay, why am I leaving Floofy in the lead? Rock Smash isn't all that great. I tag out for Buster and get caught in a Sandstorm.
[NO LINK TO THE DARUDE SONG, PLEASE]
Agreed. Buster Low Kicks it down to little HP and it Rock Polishes to speed up. It then Tackles and Buster gets her Revenge for it.
[Round 2: vs. Onix]
With Buster kinda busted up, I tag in Tessa and Water Gun it for the win.
With everything in the Mine cleared up, no Baelrogs unearthed
[YET]
and everything else seemingly good to go, time to head for the Gym.
In other words, prime stopping point.
[TEAM STATUS]
Buster, Lv 12, Low Kick -> Low Sweep
Tessa, Lv 14
Belfries, Lv 11
Floofy, Lv 12
Astra, Lv 13
Nala, Lv 13
Until then.
