Okay, so I started this as just a bit of personal amusement and a chance to play through a game using a Pokemon I had always wanted.

[SO NATURALLY, HEADCANON STARTS FORMING THAT MAKES THINGS A LOT MORE INTERESTING]

Yeah...I shared this with a few folks on Telegram last night, but I thought I'd share it with all of you here.

Omen the Deino: He's rather hard-headed and foul-tempered, partially due to how he was brought into being as some outsider's plaything and mostly for being fully aware of the fact that his existence came at the expense of another's life (...*cough* yeah, I transformed a random Patrat into him...and, canonically, he knows this). This is most exemplified by his Dragon Rage technique, a move that (at this point in the game, at least) destroys anything and everything it unleashed upon and, currently, is the only attack he has that is guaranteed to hit due to the other exemplification of this, his Hustle ability (which makes Physical attacks 50% more powerful but 20% less accurate), emulating his inability to focus in battle when trying *not* to resort to his accursed power.

As such, I've come to see Dragon Rage as him lashing out at the world around him in anger at the fate he's been dealt, as much as he tries not to. He knows his rage could spell the world's doom if it ever got out of control, but he also fears there is nothing he can do about it and that it will eventually be too much for him, leaving the future quite ominous for him as befitting of the name he was given.

The time he has spent with a certain Oshawott-turned-Dewott, however, has helped ground him, both in the time she spends fighting in his stead and the time they spend outside of battle traveling the countryside. She doesn't look at him with fear or pity, but compassion and concern for his well-being. Through her, and their growing group of friends, he is slowly starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

His growing determination to refrain from relying on the Dragon Rage is further exemplified by his Adamant nature, emphasizing his physical power (which, again, Hustle makes even greater) and diminishing the growth of his Special Attack power (and forcibly exemplified by how, as time goes on, Dragon Rage will be less and less useful due to always dealing 40 damage no matter what...devastating right now when nothing more than 40 HP, but in time it'll be kinda useless.)

He knows he can't do anything to undue the damage that has already been done, and nothing, not even his selfish creator, can bring back the life that was lost to create his...but for now, maybe he can actually try to find some good and some peace in the world, do something to make up for the pain he's caused...give his existence meaning beyond being some outsider's plaything.

Onnamusha the Dewott: At first she came along with Rene on her adventure, but then fate dealt them an odd hand as a strange Deino, whom eventually identified itself as Omen, came into existence in their team. Rene herself seemed completely oblivious to the change, but she could see that something was very wrong...and that, whatever it was, it was not this poor creature's fault. If anything, he was as much a victim here as the Patrat that had briefly been in one of Rene's Pokeballs and had vanished without a trace when this newcomer appeared.

As she and Omen traveled together with their Trainer, she took pity on him, fully believing his story about being made solely as someone's plaything and, to help him out, became rather protective of him. She preferred taking up the fight so that he doesn't have to, a fact which Rene was perfectly fine with as the Oshawott had been her first Pokemon. She unwittingly played on his creator's fondness for his starters (which was, honestly, the only reason she wasn't the one transmuted into Omen) in the process, ascending from simply being Rene's first Pokemon into being the true protagonist's impromptu bodyguard. His warrior-protector, his lady-at-arms...hence the name Rene was inspired to give her, the term for a female samurai: Onna-musha.

Her determination to help him overcome his dark fate is turning her into a powerful protector and a cherished companion.

[...SO, ARE WE SHIPPING THEM, THEN?]
Mmmm...not just yet, no.
