[AND ALSO SOME MORE TEAM LORE]
Calico the Liepard: One of the first Pokemon Rene caught was a mischievous Purrloin. An eternal prankster even after she evolved later on in their journey, Calico is nonetheless a team player who enjoys helping the rest of Rene's team almost as much as she enjoys toying with them, making Torment and Assist staples in her repertoire.
By far her favorite teammate to play-fight with, pull pranks on, and stand alongside in a 2-on-2 is...
Bella the Swoobat: She was taken in by Rene in Wellspring Cave and immediately took a shine to the girl and her team. Omen seemed distant and distraught, but the rest of them were cheerful and pleasant to be with, making the end of her solitude all the more welcome. Her sympathy for Omen's story and the admiration for how Rene took care of her and the others swiftly led the way to her evolving from a Woobat to her current form. (In game, it was because I spent a lot of time in Wellspring Cave trying to catch a Drilbur...which I did! Artorias is another current team member and our resident escape artist, the master of the Dig.)
While much of the team seems happy enough, Omen still can't get over the pangs of guilt he feels every time he thinks about the Patrat that should be here in his place. He didn't choose to be born, he didn't want his life to come at another's expense...and worst of all, it seemed as though his creator, Rene's unseen guide through the world, had lost interest in its plaything as he was rarely being called into battle voluntarily; it seemed the only way he could help his comrades was when one of them fell, at which time he would force his way to the front to take revenge for them, unable to hold back his anger any longer. Every time, the power he hated so much, his Dragon Rage, left devastation in its wake...
...Until one day it didn't. A Sigilpyh had struck down Rolipoli, Rene's recently-caught Venipede (now fully grown to a Scolipede), with a single Air Cutter (Yeah, I know, leaving a Poison/Bug against a Psychic/Flying was REALLY stupid on my part, 7-level advantage be damned). The blood rush, the lust for vengeance took hold of him once more, and regardless of Onnamusha's attempts to help him stay calm, he took to the battle and struck the bird down with all his might...only it remained standing.
Perhaps it was his growing self-doubt. Perhaps it was the slowly-growing sense of peace he felt being with so many friends. Whatever the reason, the power he had come to dread losing himself to...was fading.
He didn't have time to even think about what this meant before the Sigilyph blew him out of the battle and dragged Bella to the forefront. Fortunately, she was stronger and faster than it, allowing her to finish up Omen's work swiftly.
Still...he couldn't believe it. Dragon Rage had taken control of him once again, and yet...nothing came of it. No devastation, no carnage, not even enough of a wound to prevent him from being sent sailing. He didn't know whether to take comfort in this fact...or fear what it might mean for him in the eyes of the one who had brought him into this world. If being an engine of destruction was his only purpose, a purpose he apparently could no longer fulfill...what would become of him? Would the Patrat's sacrifice be for nothing?
[OKAY, THAT GOT A LOT DEEPER THAN YOUR USUAL ENTRIES]
Yeah, I know. That's half the fun of this one. I was planning on just making it a fun run with a Deino at my side, and suddenly it's turning into a story all its own.
[WELL THEN, UNTIL NEXT TIME!]
