There were always two thing that confused me about President Bush...

1) Aren't the embryos that would be used in stem cell research ones that are going to simply be disposed of (or, in his own words, "where the life and death decision has already been made")?
If that's the case, wouldn't it be better and more respectful for them to serve a potentially great service to the world rather than...y'know...just going into the garbage and being forgotten?

2) Bush once said, as an argument against assisted suicide, that we should respect the right to life at all stages of it.
...Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't death also a stage of life, and by his own argument, in need of being respected?

Death is the end of life. not so much a stage. This is according to science, because religion varies it and I'm leaving that out of here.

as for stem cell research... ick. Just ICK. The problem isn't with using aborted fetuses, but elsewhere. When a woman goes in for invitro fertilization, they take several eggs and try to fertilize them all. If they take, they are frozen and one is implanted. The rest are eaither disposed of, or used in stem cell research. This is encouraging doctors to start life with the intent of ending it, because they must be money to had this way.

also it encourages cloning and OH GOD that is some scary Fullmetal Alchemist junk there D:

Personally, I don't worry as much about cloning as some people. Physically, they would be MOSTLY identical (minute details that develop post-conception, like fingerprints, would probably be different) but personality-wise, unless they were raised exactly the same way, they'd be different. (Say, for example, a cloned embryo of Leonardo DiCaprio being raised by a Texas ranch family vs. another raised by a Swedish yodeler and a dominatrix vs. the original Leo DiCaprio.)

As for the rest...yeah, I can see your point on the stem cell research. I could say a few things here, but...*shrugs*

Well, it generally takes 500-800 failed embryos to produce about 3-5 sucessful clones, and they usually die in infancy. Maybe if scientists can figure out how to do it without so much waste, but until then, that's alot of dead baby horsies/kittens/cows/sheeps :/

Maybe you couldn't tell I'm against abortion XD but ironically, I'm for assisted suicide. I love to debate, if you ever want to talk let me know. I just hate all that irration back and forth caps locks going on with Bush debates.
